Last week had Maverick oil n filter changed. Next did Wife‘s Escape. Quick Lane stuff.

After Escape changed, check oil level. Whoa…looks like too much. Checked paper work, it says 6 qts. Escape has 1.5 L engine, manual says 4.3 qts with filter. Back to Quick Lane. Query the guys, and tech who did the change. He confirmed did put in 5.3 qts, thinking it was 2.0 L engine. His excuse was ”paperwork showing 6 qts”. Big mistake. Requested oil drained, proper amount oil added. Even so, they still not listen…keeping, not removing oil filter, prob means that 0.3 QTs remains, so I suggested putting only 4 QTs. But dude put in 4.3. I left it like that.

I been using this QL spot for 12 so so years. Now I have to wonder if need to go elsewhere. Price and quality of service??

That’s frustrating, but if you’ve had good service there before then keep going. Everybody has bad days and messes up at work. If he is a decent employee/human then he will learn from his mistake and improve.

You seem to know enough about it. Change your own. It's the only sure fire way to make sure it's done 100% each time.

Same thing happened to my wife, back in 2021. Ford Quick Lube over filled her Escape 2.5.
They called her before she left the parking lot and had her bring it back.

I don't take any of my vehicles to those places. I do all the oil changes myself but one day I got lazy and told my wife to take her Subaru to a Valvoline quick lube, they put close to 2 extra quarts on the thing. To me, those places are expensive, try to up sale you with crap that you don't need and they don't care.

Crazy to think the tech didn't even check the dipstick after filling. He would've caught right away that it was overfilled. Sad service.
My thoughts exactly. It’s what I did, do all times.

I will change my own oil for as long as I can. But I understand the OP frustration of going to the same place for 12 years and have this happen. A simple check of the dipstick after filling it up would have solved the problem. You'd think this a part of their process, irregardless of what they think the computer says.

When I do my own oil change, I always double check that I-

Put the drain plug back in
Put the oil filter on correctly
Put the fill cap back on
Put in the correct oil amount
Check the dipstick

When it comes to doing anything, check, double check, and check again!

I use to do all my oil change. Have all the tools, jack, stands, drain pan, filter wrench, rags, etc. But with age creep, soon to be 78, it’s tough to get up off the ground. All the $ I saved now goes to “others” who change oil. But I keep a watch in them.

Agree. To certain extent. But this young nice fella didn’t have looks of a tech/mechanic I accustomed toward. And I stop, let it rest there.

I use to go to the counter at Quick Lane, first ask “Are your technicians qualified?”. Forgot to ask this time.

CajunMick you're killin me (with laughter). I don't care what people think, but a real mechanic (male or female) do have a certain look about them. You can see it in their eyes. Their eyes say, "I got you covered."

Ha! My “garage” will not accommodate any lift. Traveling in other countries, see garages without roof to allow vehicle lifts/height. And wife not gonna like that.
