Why does the 2025 Ecoboost take more oil?

I had a Crosstrek and installed a fumoto valve which meant oil changes were super easy. Oil filter was on top, and it had a cutout on the plastic skid plate to reach the valve. The Ford seems like it wants to discourage people from doing so haha.

I was most likely going to just jack one or both sides up and then put it on stands. Ramps don't give me confidence.

The biggest obstacle is really that the oil filter is hard to find and 6.1 quarts means I need 7 quart bottle. I was planning to use the Kirkland signature oil though, $36 for 2x5 qts

Ramps give you less confidence than jack stands?

just buy 2, 5qts and then you’ll have the extra quart for your next 5 oil changes.

Mostly the mounting part, I don't have to drive the truck into the ramp and make sure my wheels are straight.

Pull into the garage, wedge the ramps under both front tires and then get back in and drive straight up them.

Just buy two gallons, put in 6 quarts, and save the half for next time. Realistically, being short that 0.1 qt isn't going to be the doom of the engine.

Lol that's what I'm saying is sketchier than Jack stands- controlling the throttle and it being AWD vs just lifting each (or one) side up. Ramps are faster but the screw negate any savings anyway.

.1 quart is going to make zero difference in a 6-quart sump. That's 3.2 ounces. Just put 6 even quarts in there and be done with it.

In all honesty, if I'm doing something where the wheels are staying on, I just jack up the truck and slide the ramps under the tires. I know it's not how the ramps are "supposed to be used," but that gives me 100% control on how they're placed, and a nice aluminum floor jack makes it no more effort than lifting the truck for jack stands would be.

I totally get buying the oil in bulk (I usually do the 5-qt Mobil 1 jugs from Walmart) but it is never a bad idea to have an extra 1-quart bottle laying around for top-ups or these weird capacities. At that scale I am not too worried if the pennies-per-fluid-ounce cost is a bit higher.

What would you consider a major engine component? The block? Same. Cylinder head? Same. Crankshaft? Same. Pistons? Same. Connecting rods? Same. Valve train? Same. Turbo? Same. Direct injection system? Same.

You'd be wrong.

It's a completely new engine. Different block, different heads, different cams, different fuel system, different valve cover, different intake, different flywheel, different water pump, different thermostate housing, different crankcase ventilation system, etc...

I can't remember the last time I've had to add oil to a modern vehicle between oil changes. Are you assuming that your Maverick will consume oil? I have a 2012 Focus with the direct-injected predecessor of the Ecoboost (Duratech 20) with 150,000 miles on it, and I've never had to add oil between oil changes.

I wanted to say the same thing.
Going back to my 87 Ford Taurus Wagon, when I started using Mobile 1.
Very rare was the occasion I ever had to add oil in between oil changes. My Buick Encore was the first turbocharged gasoline engine I've owned. I never really gave it much thought. My F-350 diesel is turbocharged.
I fully understand increased pressures may result in more oil consumption.
