I’ve seen them removed by drilling small hole in the nut and tapping it, then red thread locking a machine screw into it, seemed like overkill if you have a dremel and carbide bit, destroying it either way
I was also thinking that maybe I could put an easy-out into the opening.

When I lock the doors on my 2024 Lariat the tail gate locks. Not gonna be stealing mine.
Why do theives steal them ?
it’s a thou shalt not.
Get up and get down with the sickness,
They awakened the demon within.

And they look kool as garage wall art
donchaknow…

Folks like to steal them believe it or not. Removing it is sometimes helpful if you’re loading something super heavy and don’t want the weight on the tailgate while loading
I bought the lock for my 22, but realized there was somewhat of a factory one that makes it harder to take off, so I didn’t get one for my 25. The factory one is in the below pic I swiped from the forum

🤓 🤔 How about a better picture.

ah. but still, every new Ford comes with 2 fobs. that's why when you get a trade in quote, they ask if you have 2 or more key fobs, because you should.
hmmmmm....i was charged extra for my 2nd key fob at Haldeman Ford Kutztown, PA. were they being shady?

was it new? then yes.

if it was used, then it may have only one key and they had to buy a second one, and why not charge you for it.

Yeah, thought about just destroying the thing and taking it out. Also I'm pretty sure than contacting the company wouldn't get results because of: 1. They wouldn't know what pattern to send. and 2: the probably don't sent them out, even as a purchase, for security reasons. Guess I'll just break out the Dremel if absolutely necessary.
If you do remove your lock, you may want to get the factory retainer below to prevent your tailgate from being easily removed or falling off (hinge) if driven in the down position on rough roads.

What is the above and its use. It came with a code number and mail-in envelope to register it, as well as the option to purchase additional ones. Trouble is, I have no idea what it is or what it’s for.
Please post pic

Pic would help, but I’m guessing you got a tailgate lock from the dealer, the “key” opens it. Can’t take off tailgate without removing it. Mounts on passenger side of tailgate

I got one with my 25 as well. It’s a little key in a package. I’m not sure what it’s for either, but I figure if I need one I’ll know where it is!

No worries on that! I've got BOTH on there. That tailgate ain't going anywhere but up n down. I'm just not gunna' worry about it for now.

Did not realize that the factory part would fit over/under the added lock. Good to know, I think. I thought the instructions just said to remove it.

Is it possible to steal the tail gate when it is closed and the latch is locked (as when the doors are locked)? My XLT locks all doors and tail gate when pressing the “lock” on the key fob. Anyway, I have the tri-fold hard tonneau which locks down as well. Just curious. Don’t see many Mavericks around here so I think not much market for stolen parts.

My setup is the same as yours and I wonder the same thing.
