I'm guessing there used to be a manual shift lever and cable that's not on newer Mavericks.
My guess is the Manual Park Release is disengaging the park pawl.

Good guess, I would agree.
I've seen weird small plastic covers near the gear shifter on Subarus and Hondas to insert a key to disengage park if the car is dead...

I have the metal pin in my glove box and see the Manual Park Release on the Transmission.

Workshop Manual has the steps for using it to get the transmission into neutral:

Transmission Park by Wire Manual Release

Activation
1. NOTE: If the vehicle battery is dead or there is no electrical power available, connect an external power source.

Apply the parking brake.

2. Remove the air cleaner.
Refer to: Air Cleaner (303-12A Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 2.0L EcoBoost (177kW/240PS) – MI4, Removal and Installation) .

3. Remove the bolt and the manual park release.

4. Locate the park override pin inside the vehicle storage.

1. Rotate the inner override counter-clockwise until the pin can be installed through the top.
2. Make sure that the component is correctly installed. Use the General Equipment: Flat Headed Screw Driver

9. When the repair is complete, connect the battery.
Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures) .

10. NOTE: If the vehicle battery is dead or there is no electrical power available, connect an external power source.

Apply the parking brake.

• Once the vehicle repairs have been made, remove the pin and the park system will activate.
Confirm the vehicle is in P and the IPC indicates P .

• Return the service pin to vehicle storage location.

12. Install the air cleaner.
Refer to: Air Cleaner (303-12A Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 2.0L EcoBoost (177kW/240PS) – MI4, Removal and Installation) .

13. While applying the brakes, release the parking brake.
I have the same issue with a 2022 ford maverick lariat AWD GAS version. It came with the same key thing mentioned here and as it says in owners manual that I have a strap in center console and there is nothing there. Asked dealership to verify and they agreed no strap just a wiring harness. It's been months now and no one from dealership or Ford HQ has given me an answer/ solution to emergency tow with all 4 wheels off the ground and use the key supplied to do the Manual park release.
So when I see this post by BlueSpec1 it gave me hope and of course raises more questions that I hope some can help.
1. I see in the above instructions it mentions the air cleaner being removed and it species the 2.0L EcoBoost, so my question are these instructions limited to that engine?
2. Where did BlueSpec1 find these instructions?
3. Has anyone had the experience yet doing this Procedure and have successfully had it towed?
4. How the heck would you do this Procedure if you car died in the middle of the freeway or even a country road as you cannot push the car to the side of the road in a emergency?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me on those questions.

So far I've only read of Maverick being skidded up onto flat bed tow trucks when the vehicle won't start.
The metal pin being put in the glove box seems a useless gesture by Ford once they deleted the tether.

The info is out of the Repair Manual(s). I got the PDF ones from factory-manuals.com

2.0L Engine:
2023 Maverick
307-05B Automatic Transmission External Controls - 8-Speed Automatic Transmission – 8F35

For a 2.5L Engine the 2022 Escape PHEV Repair Manual has:
307-05B Automatic Transmission External Controls - Automatic Transmission – HF45

Brake Shift Interlock Actuator Manual Override
Activation
1. The HF45 transmission does not have an external mechanical lever to override P .
To shift the transmission out of P the vehicle needs a 12 volt power source.
If the battery voltage is not sufficient, an external 12 volt power source will be required to shift the transmission out of P .
Once their is a sufficient power supply, enter the stay in N mode.
