People might not like that the "Full size" spare isn't the same but it lets you put it on and drive like regular, meaning I could get a flat at the beach and still drive home on the interstate.

Took off the doughnut spare yesterday. Got a spare matching Bronco Sport wheel and a new set of Falken Wildpeaks for the Mav. Put one of my used Falken 235/60/R18 tires on the 18" wheel. No problem fitting it up there. Didn't reduce ground clearance.

would a full size alloy wheel fit in the spare wheel area with full original size tire? would the tread touch the exhaust pipe?

If you have the OEM trailer hitch which is welded to the crash bar you have 3/16"-1/4" less room for the spare.

very good to know. I do have the factory trailer hitch. the question still stands if anyone happens to know, especially given this additional knowledge of the reduction in size due to the hitch.

Be glad you are not painting an osprey plane for military. That radar absorbing paint is multiple thousands per gallon.

Tires leak down over time. I drop and set my spare to 45 psi. Then I reset the pressure to 35 when or IF I need it. Yes I carry a digital tire gage with me. I reset it once a year and seem to loose 5 to 6 psi over a year.
This Is the way :'P

I don't care for the plastic piece that goes over the cables to hold/lift the spare into place. The plastic "tunnel" that is supposed to guide the rod into place is also trash...

Looks like a freaking bicycle tire under there!

I'm definitely going to make some upgrades-

Yeah, I paid the $115 extra for the"fullsize" spare when I ordered my XLT hybrid. It's not even the same size or brand as the 4 Continentals on the ground. The Door sticker even shows that it's a smaller tire. Big misrepresentation by Ford by not disclosing that when ordering truck. And the manual indicates not to put mismatched tires on the vehicle, so what is the $115 for? A temporary oversized donut? Seems like a handling & safety issue waiting to happen! And all calls to FoMoCo and dealer just get shrugged off with a "too bad, buddy" attitude & they each tell me to call the other one.
Cheesy way to do business.
If ya have time, I would do a "practice" run of getting the jack out and lowering the spare so you'll know how to do it in case of an emergency on the interstate. It ain't easy, especially with that blue cone that's in the center holding the cable. Took me awhile to see the "slit" in it to get it off so the tire was able to be freed. But that's part of being an old geezer I guess 🤣
I just found this out the hard way at midnight. F

ull size spare my ass. That blue cone can go to hell. And I despise scissor jacks. Thankfully I’m a very capable woman and come prepared. New vehicle doesn’t mean no problems.

So a true (same size as on the truck) full size spare will fit under the truck fine with no issues?

I had to buy a new tire so I know it's going to outlast the other 3 by a lot so I have been thinking that when it was time to replace the 3 I would take the newer one and get a wheel so it could replace the mini spare underneath.

It’ seems there is enough space with a 17/18 wheel and standard tire. The previous posts users have different spec tires and said it was a tight fit and to watch for the alligator teeth in the spare well.

For the record, that isn't a full-size spare of any kind, even the optional one that Ford provides. That is the temporary spare, and yes it is a piece of crap.

There are a dozen threads on this - I know because I've posted in about 3 of them.
