I really wanted a full size spare, so here's how it went.
Issues I ran into:
1. The center hole for the FX4 style tire is a bit smaller than the donut spare. Bending the cables prior to inserting the metal tab works just fine (slightly rubs off the coating though)
2. Much harder to raise a full size tire and wheel rather than the donut into place, but also manageable.

Otherwise plenty of room to mount a full size tire. Haven't ran into any issues so far. Ride height hasn't been affected.

In terms of cost:
Tire from Walmart: ~160
FX4 wheel from Ford Parts America: ~600 after taxes and core fee and shipping
Mounting, balancing, and TPMS sensor from my local Ford leadership: ~140

Just providing the info in case anyone else is interested.

Interesting, I was curious about this for the 18 inch wheel on a hybrid Lariat Lux.

Remember that there is a piece of sawtoothed metal down there facing the spare, presumably to deflate the spare in the event of an accident so that the rear section maintains its proper designed crumple zones.

Other than possibly losing the tire in an accident, is there any reason against including the now full-size spare in the regular rotation pattern of your 5 tires?

I suppose not, other than the fact that it's not as convenient. So pure laziness would be the only factor I guess. I'll see how that goes when it's time. I barely hit 800 total miles today.

That wheel is going to get destroyed from rocks. I personally run a $100 Unique 83 steel wheel from Discount Tire.
Possible damage is for sure. Guess it depends on your drive.

that extra weight can't be good for mpg :(
I'd rather have the full size spare. Planning on taking the car places where getting a new tire might take a long time. Wouldn't want to drive on a smaller wheel in non-ideal conditions for an extended period of time.

This.

So technically it doesn't fit. You can see in the second third picture that the tire is beneath the saw tooth, and the whole tire tilts about a inch and a half down from back to front. I'm not exactly sure how the saw tooth/crumple zone thing works but it must be important if Ford put it there.

Last week I bought a Ford steelie refurb off of Ebay, and had Discount tire put a Corsa 235/65R17 (I have the factory Falkens) on it, and I could get it to fit like the OP did but I didn't like not engaging the sawtooth and I didn't like the look of the tilt. So I let most of the air out of the tire and got it to fit between the hitch tube and the saw tooth. And then ordered a 12V inflator off Amazon for $25. ;) I'll keep it in the passenger side cubby in the bed.

My saga started a week ago Saturday when my wife and I were on our way to an estate auction about 40 miles away and just as we hit the highway, we heard a thunk and then my tire sensor pressure went off on the dash. Pulled off on a little dirt patch and could still hear the air leaking from the passenger rear.
Ford Maverick (Actual) Full Size Spare tire

No idea what the hell I ran over but it took a chunk of tread and cut right down thru the cords. We even went back along the road to try to see what it was but never found it. Anyway, put the tiny donut spare on and then reorganized our day, as I wasn't going to drive 40 miles on that spare. We went directly to the Ford dealership, and of course "road hazard" isn't covered on the Falken factory warranty. They ordered me a new tire on my dime and then I started researching "full size spare" on here!

I can't tell if that sawtooth is sitting above the spare or if it is pressing into it hard.

Either way i wouldn't say it "fits"

I guess you could bend the sawtooth back a bit, but I'd still be concerned

I’d like to see a pic of that setup. Did you have your current stock tire size mounted?

Nope. I run a 245/65R17 underneath to match. I can take a couple of pics today if you'd like.

I'm fairly certain that is not installed correctly. The spring should be on the inside.

I also learned my lesson the hard way having a full size spare wheel that matched the other wheels. I'll never do that again. Just get a steelie. Discount has them for $85 and often you can find them cheaper. I also won't be getting an exact tire (because I'm currently running KO2's and plan on running Wildpeaks next) so I'll get a 3 peak rated A/T cheapo in the same size.

I tested my full size 245/65R17 setup and it all fit. I'll take pics as soon as I get mine mounted up there (within the next couple weeks).
