Ok and the problems start, took delivery of my trucklett in early June of 24 sometime around September it sent me the message in Ford Pass that my vehicle has gone into deep sleep, take it for a drive and don’t use the A/C well I live in south Florida not happening, I reset it with the 5 time high beam and 3 time brake pedal maneuver, then in November got it again, then twice in December and now about 8 times in the last 2 weeks, made an appointment with the dealer and showed up bright and early, first thing the service writer tells me is that it’s a normal condition and it should go away but let’s check, he begins by opening the hood 🤔🙄😂😂 I said what r u doing he said I want to see what kind of battery you have, I said battery is under rear seat and it’s a lead acid, he said no there are no lead acid batteries in these they are all AGM, I let out another chuckle, ohhhh lord
He then proceeded to bring the truck into the shop, comes out and says battery tests good after 15 minutes and says there is nothing they can do because Ford doesn’t make an AGM BATTERY IN SIZE 24, and we don’t even have a part number, you just told me 10 minutes ago that they are all AGM, so my next question is what are they putting in the 2025 hybrids….. i know they are all AGM IN THE 25s, I hope Ford is reading this as I am installing an on board battery maintainer and as far as the dealer he said keep bringing it back or until they send you a Recall, FYI I WENT OUT TO TRUCK AT DEALER AND GOT A MESSAGE ON PHONE truck IS IN SLEEP MODE after they said they re- set it, I hope Ford is reading this one ohhhhh wellll give me a call Ford Zone I’d be glad to discuss…😢

Don't reset your BMS unless the battery is fully charged. By doing the reset when it's not charged you are telling the BMS that it is.

Do that enough times and you'll have a dead battery.
Thank You will do

This ☝
Put it on a battery maintainer overnight, then do the BMS reset the next day.

Every time you let your flooded lead-acid battery get to a low state of charge, you may be sulfating the battery and slowly killing it. If you have a charger/maintainer that can desulfate your battery, let it do that, if possible. It may help restore some of the battery's lifetime.

Yep between the awful battery software operating parameters Ford produced and the subpar specifications of the factory battery in the hybrids and apparently no fix in sight to correct the issue, it's got to be near one the biggest cluster bomb nightmares of recent automotive manufacturing. Basically Ford went for like 2 years denying there was even an issue, their response was usually drive the hybrids more and longer times from what i understand. IMO, it's totally unacceptable that owners are forced to the expense of buying trickle chargers, maintainers, jump start packs on a brand new vehicle. Many have replace their factory batteries with the newer AGM type batteries, which will help short term, but imo, nothing is going to cure it long term until Ford rewrites the software code related to battery charging and replacing those old school batteries with new AGM. Just my thoughts and opinions on the matter. Sorry your having to deal with it all along with many others.

I’m wondering if the 2025 hybrid with the AGM batteries have new software and they are testing it first in the 25’s before they do the recall…. Just a wishful thought ! Appreciate your input 😊

There is a software fix from Ford coming next month or March that may or may not fix this battery issue.

From your mouth to God’s ears, if they don’t I’m thinking of installing one of those huge I phone chargers on my garage floor 😂😂😂

it's fork in the road kinda thing. You get to a point where you gotta decide whether to replace with AGM and move on as with so many others including myself, or stick with the old crappy battery and hopefully Ford will come with a real solution. With things the way they are in terms of costs and supplies, I am not hopeful that we are going to get a battery replacement.

How do you reset the BMS? M y battery is always low after being parked for a few hours. This with the new battery that Ford installed a month ago on my 2024 hybrid with 6500 miles after two tows and 8 jump starts from Ford road assist. I give it three months before the battery is total dead.

hi, if you have a push button start, do not touch the brake, push the start button without brake depressed then clear dash by saying ok on steering wheel, flash high beams 5 times, then step on brake 3 times, then hit start button once and then hit it again the red battery should blink on dash telling you that bms is reset, make sure battery is fully charged before resetting, ps if u have a key ignition just put key in accessory position and do the same procedure good luck this works on the 2024 Mav others can be slightly different 👍

...if [yo]u have a key ignition just put key in accessory position ...
  • In my XL Hybrid, I turn the key to ON (not Acc or Ready or Start).
  • Get rid of all the nag screens on the instrument cluster.
  • Turn on headlights.
  • Pull back on the flash to pass stalk 5 times.
  • Press the brake pedal 3 times.
  • WAIT for up to 30 seconds and the red battery icon will eventually flash, indicating BMS reset was successful.

You can have fun resetting the BMS all you want because it makes you feel like you're taking action. But it won't make any difference. Two different hybrids and three years later, I have tried it all. Ford (so far )doesn't have a clue. So many of us are just inclined or hopelessly destined to just fix it ourselves. That mentality and drive has worked for me more often than not in my life. But when it comes to these computers on wheels, it's genuine futility.
And btw, the Ford rep no longer trolls this forum. And for good reason, he/she was worthless.
