Poll: Stake pockets, would you buy?

I'm chewing on the idea of creating stake pockets for the bed and might create a product for sale.

• Thinking of 4 pockets
• Probably galvanized or power coated
• Bolt on, no drilling
• Light / medium duty, I'm planning on using it for kayaks, not a roof top tent or cords and cords of firewood

Seems a little unusable in a 4.5' bed, especially if they have to be mounted inboard. I think any racks or other accessories for the bed having their own mounting systems is the way to go.

I could see this as a way to add some extended sides if you're getting firewood, but if you're that self reliant you'd probably figure out that you can buy some 2x4 barricade holders at a hardware store and attach them with clamps. Total cost including C-clamps and 2x4s would be under $35.

Thanks for asking. No, nothing tangible resulted. I spent quite a few enjoyable hours leaning how to use onshape with the idea of having sendcutsend make it. I got close to ordering something but didn't get to it.

Then my wife asked what kind of liability there could be if I sold them. She's smarter than I am.

Here's what I came up with. The main bracket sits on the edge of the bed. A pair of L brackets behind sandwich the top edge. Holes for a couple of bolts complete the 'pocket' for a 1 by 4 and another to support the bottom. Some spare holes around for adjustability and tie downs, plus some decoration.

I was thinking this, after realizing I hadn't seen it done in ages despite all the trucks around, and not even noticing if the holes are still included in the bed side tops anymore for most trucks.
Perhaps I just needed to drive in the country more at the right time to see it still being used.

I gave them a passing thought because I can get weld on or bolt on stake pockets. Then I thought, "What am I gonna do, get loose hay for the horses I haven't got or pile it full of watermelons to be the comic relief in a car chase???"

You'd be shocked by the number of calfs you see hauled around in the back of pickup trucks with stakes in rural Mexico... Who needs a horse trailer to move cattle?
