So, if you can forscan some of those tremor/fx4 drive modes onto the hybrid AWD will it perform better? I know it won't have the locking diff, but maybe it's more aggressive with the traction control braking?

sand and mud/ruts drive modes are replaced on the 25 fx4 and tremor with just one mode called Off-road.

forscan doesn't yet work with a 25 but when it does, it would be worthwhile to try enabling Off-road drive mode.

there is a lobo drive mode also.

I think this makes me feel better about the hybrid awd then the first test the younger dude did on the same course. No one is really taking a Maverick hybrid through something like this unless you absolutely have to, good to know if you get on it you can get out.

I really thought I would miss buttons/knobs for the air but I am finding it’s a non issue (I was surprised too lol). The adjustment controls are always present on the bottom of the screen. And the interior is so small it doesn’t take much to heat. You can also set it up for voice controls. On a similar note, also finding the speakers on the XLT are really not that bad at all. Are these the same ones on the 22-24’s? From reading the forums, I expected way worse.

The hybrid made it out with $hittier tires, less clearance, and a downgraded AWD. It wasn’t made to run that type of course and yet it still made it through. I can always add better tires, lift it a little bit and tweak the AWD programming later. I’ll take this, double the fuel economy and the ability to tow my 3500 lb camper any day of the week.

That's highly unlikely unless it's 100% city driving. Also when towing both Hybrid or Ecoboost mpg drops.

After watching this video I'm not sure I would be wanting to tow a trailer with the Hybrid. You might want to buy ear plugs or ear muffs. Not sure what you can do to maintain posted speed limit?

I do agree that AT tires would make a big difference. Also just going to p235 tires gains about a 1/4 inch ground clearance. So it accomplish's both extra traction and extra ground clearance.

Keep in mind for mpg and towing test the truck is unloaded not carrying extra weight except his son in the passenger seat. Not loaded like going on vacation with the family. So mileage and towing is a little skewed.

I think it should be obvious that the engine was pegged and they were limited to 56mph because it was such an extreme test.

there is flat ground near TFL - it gets much flatter less than an hour east of Denver International Airport. they're fairly responsive to comments on their videos, someone should ask them how the hybrid awd 4k tow does on flatter ground at lower elevation. in fact, I-70 east of Denver gets into 75 mph speed limits pretty fast, so I'd be curious how the truck does at that speed.

Granted, many people would not even choose to tow that fast, they would do more like 65-70 max. but I'm still confident that the hybrid awd 4k tow would not be revving to the moon at those speeds on level, lower ground.

They were trying to maintain 60 mph. They could only get 57 mph out of it. Yes there is flat ground but there are also big hills and inclines throughout the United States. Big difference compared to when they tested the Maverick 2.0 with Santa Cruz and Ridgeline.

That tow test was an extreme test. 11,000 feet elevation (down 33% on power), extreme cold, winter gas, up 7% grade and over the max tow limit. It did it and was passing the big rigs. 99% of people would not see those conditions.

Really look at the results of the Maverick 2.0 in the same test.

my guy, I do not live in Denver but I have driven that exact stretch they test on at least 30 times in the past 15 years in 6 vehicles. it is a very severe test. there is almost nowhere in the continental US you could pick that is steeper and higher elevation for that amount of time. (in another thread, I mentioned this is only half of it. climbing from the exit of the Eisenhower tunnel up to Vail is no picnic.)

I have been in a minivan with people and luggage that could not come close to maintaining 56 up the steepest sections. conversely, my ecoboost maverick with 3 mtbs acting very much as a sail and a full bed of gear, and 3 people in the cab can EASILY get up there as fast as any person dares. (and some locals do 80.) I am not at all arguing against the fact - not opinion - that the ecoboost maverick can tow 4k better than the hybrid. that is very obvious.

it's just that I remain curious to see hybrid 4k towing results on less severe terrain, and until proven otherwise, I am highly confident it can do it as long as you manage your expectations. (don't try to pass a semi doing 50 on a 2 lane.)
