Ford Maverick Towing a camper trailer w/ my Maverick Hybrid IMG_0914

Towing a modified ‘72 Serro Scottie with a ‘23 hybrid Maverick.

No issues, I just stay at or under 65 mph and watch my power meter to keep at or below 50% (thanks GPSMan).

I have towed highways and backroads with some hills, about 6 hrs. trip of driving (stopping when needed). The trailer and Maverick bed were packed with gear and riding in the cab were my wife, daughter, and dog in addition to me.

I got about 24 MPGs using mostly regular or eco settings.

Just so you know the facts you should run the loaded trailer and loaded Mav across a truck scale . It's just a good idea to know where you're at .
It's easy , quick and cheap .
And we all know the hybrid can tow up to 4000 lbs as long as you have a properly installed brake controller. As from the factory, the FWD's should only pull 2000 lbs, as equipped from the factory, without a brake controller.
😎

That's not true. The 25 ECVT was beefed up. Also you need AWD and the 4k tow package has an upgraded fan, transmission oil cooler, conventional spare and requires 360 co-pilot besides the 7 pin wire harness and the brake controller. Some like the co-pilot 360 and spare are safety

Is this something Ford has stated? Doesn't towing more than your vehicle is rated void the warranty? In 2025 with the 4k rating on the hybrid they went from the HF45 to the HF55 which has a a higher torque rating. Might be more involved than just an upgraded brake controller.

Back in the late '70's, my almost FIL tried to gift me & his daughter an old Serro Scotty, since I had a place to park it. Probably worth a lot now, but I couldn't wait to get rid of it.

Yours is MUCH better looking, enjoy!

Yep it's more than a different ECVT. Transmission oil cooler an upgraded radiator fan. More importantly physics, it's why even the 2.0 ecoboost FWD can only tow 2000lbs. It needs AWD as more weight is distributed to the rear of a vehicle when towing. Of course besides the additional equipment that is added on the 4k tow package.

Don't get me wrong FWD has its advantages. Towing heavy loads, just isn't one of them. You have the additional tongue weight that extends past the bumper (hitch/ball). You also Everytime going up an incline the weight is again distributed to the rear of a vehicle.

The reason why FWD is good in the snow most of the weight (engine n transmission) is over the drive wheel. This is not the case when towing thus the reason and the need for AWD. The weight has now shifted from over the front (drive wheel) to the back wheels or tires, even moreso going up an incline. It's all about traction and safety. More than beating your chest and saying I pulled more than the manufacturers towing guidelines.

I didn't know the hybrid Maverick could be modified to pull 4000 lbs. Can the transmission handle it without any coolers added?

AWD hybrids are only available on the 2025 models. I thought this post was about modifying a 2WD hybrid?
Good point, that was an oversite on my part. I shouldn't have assumed we were discussing new models.

Agreed, but when new, back in 1972, the OP's trailer weighed 1680#.

I would think AWD would be better for towing. I was under the assumption that 2000 lbs was the max towing for a FWD hybrid. I didn't know they could be modified to tow more. I am wondering if the transmission can handle it or would it need more cooling.
