Greetings all, I am new to the forum and I was seeking advice about the two engine options for the 2025 Maverick. I am considering purchasing one of the following: a 2024 Maverick XLT with an EcoBoost engine, a 2025 Maverick XLT (or Lariat) with a hybrid engine, or a 2025 Maverick XLT with an EcoBoost engine. I would appreciate any information and guidance that the community could provide on which engine to purchase. I would be doing a lot of city driving and I would also be getting the 4k tow package to tow a single axle trailer that is about 3200 lbs. Thanks.

The 2.0 has way way more pulling a trailer power over the hybrid.
if saving on fuel is important the hybrid will deliver.
I chose the 2024 AWD 2.0Ltr Lariat without the tow package.
I didn’t want the complexity of the hybrid or need the higher mpg’s.
I did not like the much larger infotainment screen in the 2025’s at all.
Or the IMHO the EV look of the 25’s front end.
My 2024 was bought on the last day of 2024, I saved about $3,000 because of the 2025 price increase and would not have gotten the dealer rebate of $1500 on a 2025.
They needed to move the 24’s
So adding it all up. $4,500 less than a new 2025 Eco AWD Lariat. I’m Happy

If you do a lot of towing the 3200 lb. trailer, you would be better off with a bigger truck, if not, go for a hybrid!

Get the AWD, Hybrid, 2025. Whether you want XLT or Lariat is your choice, depending on what options you want/need. In 2022-2024, the Hybrids are only FWD with a max tow of 2,000 lbs., the 2025 model AWD has 4,000 lbs. tow capacity. With your trailer at 3,200 itself, not a lot of weight capacity left to put on it. However, many (myself included) have towed many a trailer over the stated "max". I don't condone or endorse that for anyone as it is my personal decision and I have past qualifications and experience and am comfortable with my actions. If I had a crystal ball and knew Ford was going to build that AWD Hybrid so soon, I would have waited for it. I have a 2023 Hybrid, which were only at 2,000 lb. tow. I only have a single axle trailer ATV trailer, 1,500 lbs. and I carry a side by side and quad on it, maybe I'm at 2,800 total. Good luck!

If you tow 4k on slippery boat ramps, get the AWD version. If you go 85mph, get the 2.0 version. If you only tow 2k and do less that about 60mph, the Hybrid is the smarter choice. If you count rotating parts or wear items, the Hybrid with no belts and a much simpler and stronger transmission is actually going to be more reliable and last longer, and gets almost twice the fuel efficiency, especially in-town.

Depends on your needs. Do you do you need more power or do you prefer more economy? The hybrid will do better for city driving but if you plan to tow/haul a lot or go offroad, you may be happier with the Ecoboost. I tend to think the hybrid power train will be more durable over time.

Definitely make sure any truck has the 4k tow package. I agree if you're towing "all the time", maybe ecoboost. The Hybrid is largely unchanged for 2025 from previous years, but they bumped the tow rating up from 2k to 4k (if equipped).

I'd also maybe look into the brake specs- the hybrid depends on a lot of regeneration to get great gas mileage. You have to brake early and light. With a trailer regen is NOT going to slow you fast, so the friction brakes will be used just as much as a non-hybrid.

In fact, the entire hybrid system is designed around a certain weight for best efficiency. Doubling that weight is going to throw it all out of wack. Not sure that you would get decent MPG towing.

But 2 years and 15k miles in, my hybrid has been solid, and about 38mpg AVERAGE.

As mentioned your hybrid will have less power for towing. Up to 2024 the hybrid doesn't have AWD. The 2025 hybrid has AWD and 4,000 lb towing capable but at 190hp you'll be left wanting more. The question will be; more power with lower fuel economy? or less power with great fuel economy?

As a former EB owner I would get the hybrid. The turbo engine and 8- speed transmission isn't a very good combo IMO.

I find that my FWD hybrid has plenty of power even when towing 2k lbs. Keep in mind that 191 HP is the same amount of HP that the early 80s Mustang GTs and Camaros had.

Hybrid Mileage is impressive on the highway and excellent in the city. The eco-boost on the other hand will always put a smile on your face when you call for power, but for me the nearly 50% less mileage in the city where I mostly drive was a show stopper.

My 24 XLT hybrid has plently of pickup! Its acceleration is excellant. I will also trailer a motorcycle trailer with it. I think for light trailering it is fine.

Not a good combo in what sense? Not trolling, just curious why. I have that combo. The 16 year old in me loves the engine. I'm not a huge fan of the automatic, which has a gazillion gears and makes strange decisions, but I don't hate it or anything.
