Got to 25k and had to do the Auto trans fluid change. Highly recommended - The OEM fluid was pretty gross - This is a relatively easy procedure - Replaced the engine oil as well . Cheers - Do they use chocolate milk when doing the first fill in Mexico ? 🤣

Easy drain plug - Fill requires the air box to be removed. Not hard. No pump needed like the PTU -

Wow that's an aggressive schedule - I did RDU/PTU fluid swaps after seeing reports of factory underfilled quantities and wanted to see for myself what was up, got that handled @ 18K-

If you do it from the bottom you only have to remove the drain and leveling plugs. I used one of those fluid bottle pumps to pump in the fluid from the level plug hole. I did it on a lift which helped a lot. Did my initial drop at 12k and fluid was still good but you could see it had some wear to it. Used about 4.5 bottles to fill it back up.

Good to know. Can u access the leveling plug without removing the wheel ? I got 4.5 out but put in a full 5 quarts since my vent has definitely burped out a few times and I am unsure of how much fluid they actually put in at the factory knowing the RDU/PTU have been under filled in quite a few instances.

When I drained my Trans I Collected and measured the fluid removed. It was 4.5 quarts. I replaced 4.5 quarts.
Other owners have added fluid until some came out of the Level plug - they used 4.5 quarts.

Anything over 4.5 quarts is overfill.

I also purchased a Dorman dipstick to confirm my levels before and after.

Cool- If mine feels bloated I am sure it will burp - I guess it will never be known how much trans fluid these actually ship with- I lost a least a few ounces of fluid over the course of two years (small puddles below the vent tube ) from vent/burps/etc- Assuming this is caused by high/heat/elevation/off-road fun- etc.

Hello: Can you please post a link or the part # for this Dorman dipstick? I have seen references to it on this forum, but never a part number. Thanks!

I think you mean transmission, right? The PTU and RDU both hold less than a quart of fluid.

I was able to put just over half a quart in each of mine - meaning I can't use the 12-14 oz I have left the next time, and have to buy fluids again anyway. Genius on Ford's part. :D

Assume you mean just over 1/2 a quart?

Oh well, you can use some of your leftovers on the second refill...
