Using Factory Hitch as a Recovery Point

Has anyone used the factory hitch as a recovery point to pull your Maverick out of a ditch or snowbank or have you used your Mavericks hitch to pull someone out of a ditch or snowbank?
I know my towing is limited and pulling someone from a snowbank usually involves a few tugs. Just wondering if anyone has tried it and if any damage happened.

Use an elastic recovery rope to reduce shock load.

You're not going to damage your Mav unless you try to get a running start using a chain attached to a semi.

You can damage anything if you try hard enough.

I know a few people who like to use a 20 foot chain with 15 feet of slack, bumpers, radiators & grills destroyed before they learned.

The tow hitch is the perfect place to pull from and with. It’s actually a better spot than from one of the tow hooks on the front.
You might consider keeping a long tow strap with you. If you buy one keep in mind that there are two different kinds:
Nylon strap = stretches under a load
Poly strap = does not stretch.
Don’t get a running start and jerk with a poly strap.

Recently pulled a Ram 1500 stuck in grass, F and R tires sunk in wet mud, rear wheel spin.

Used a nylon strap. Connect strap hook to the hitches. Pretty much a straight line pull. Maverick on cement parking lot. Pulled forward till slack out, then did gradual pull, while Ram driver reversed out. Easy pull out.

My Maverick hauls “loads“ and pulls others from mud patch. Oh yea! On 4 cylinders.

My other vehicle is a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, have done my fair share of recoveries. For recovery on vehicles that do not have tow hooks but do have a hitch, I have a strap with loops and an extra hitch pin in the Jeep. Put the strap in the hitch receiver (draw bar removed) and use the hitch pin through the holes in the hitch to hold the strap in.

Not for a kinetic rope, just a standard strap. Slowly pull ahead until taunt and then pull. That's all I end up doing for most vehicles we find stuck in the ditch during snow.

That works. Not a huge fan of hard shackles, they can fail if not used correctly. A soft shackle won't be anywhere near as damaging if it comes loose.
