At Panda Motorworks, we are committed to delivering tunes that deliver REAL WORLD results and the dependability you can trust. So after roughly 20,000 miles of hard street driving on our Stage 1 93/e50 setup, we decided to install an intercooler and dial in our new tune!

If you've talked to us in the past, we've preached about how effective adding an aftermarket intercooler is for the EcoBoost platform. The Maverick is no exception to this, and our tuning results prove that. If you know anything about intercooler technology, then you know after 1 look at the OEM intercooler that there is a lot to be desired. That's why we installed a CVF Intercooler on our Shop truck! We wanted to get our own data from this install, so now that we have it we will have a full video out very soon and it will be linked below in this thread.

Before we dive into our Stage 2 results, let's recap our Stage 1 results. Our Stage 1 results were achieved using our PandaTuned Starter Pack (K&N Drop In Filter, Cobb Accessport, & Custom Tune). We were quite pleased with results considering only a simple drop in filter and tune were added. We were also pleased to find that the stock fuel system can support an ethanol blend all the way up to E50! In descending order in the graph key are the runs from 93 Oct No Tune, 93 Oct with our Custom Tune, and then E50 with our Custom Tune!

As I mentioned, about 20,000 miles were driven at this Stage 1 level on the R&D Truck proving this setup reliable! We were very eager to add our CVF Intercooler so we can dial in our Stage 2 tuning and get it on the road for more R&D miles. The results below were achieved simply with the addition of the CVF Intercooler and a re-tune on both 93 and E50.

With our years of experience around the 2.0L EcoBoost platform, these numbers are IMPRESSIVE for the mods done. Mod for mod, the Maverick is a #FocusSTKiller! This is especially true when you factor in the AWD and Automatic transmission, these numbers are enough to put away a Focus ST. We can't wait to enjoy the Maverick at this power level for this stint of R&D miles.

If you like what you see and want to take your Maverick EcoBoost to this level, we just added the Ford Maverick Panda Motorworks Stage 2 PowerPACK to our website so you are able to get this exact setup on your Maverick! We also added the Ford Maverick Panda Motorworks Stage 2+ PowerPACK that swaps out the Drop In Filter for an AFE Momentum GT Cold Air Intake. Check it out!

Forgive my ignorance, but what does an intercooler do and how does it increase hp?

It cools the air going to the engine, the more dense the air the more power it produce. YouTube have plenty of videos about it.

Wannt test it on you ? Easy. Just get halls or mentol cough drops, start runing or walking till you feel a bit out of air, take the drop and drink a bit of water, you'll feel the difference. That's the same effect the intercooler have in the turbo engine.

Looks like some great results and I'm on the fence on which tune to go with! I have a few questions that I'm hoping you can help me with...

My truck is on the way, still several weeks from being delivered to me here in Stuttgart. I've already purchased several performance upgrades since I've been waiting around since May.
Based on the following parts I have coming, what stage would you say this is, (2+)?
S&B Intake
Velossa big mouth Ram Air
Fast Mav Catted Down Pipe
Thermal R&D Cat back exhaust

Also, we're not able to get e85 anywhere close to me, below are the fuels that are local and easy to get...

Along with the Aral 102, we have Shell 100 available. Both of these options are quite a bit more expensive though so I regularly purchase the 93 or 90 while on base as it's sold in dollars rather than in euros off base...(and cheaper per liter in dollars than it would be in euro off base)

So based on that, what would you recommend if I went with your services?

Thanks in advance and keep up the great work!!

Interesting seeing the AWD on a on a FWD dyno - is this is just something that you "tune out" for the dyno?

Thanks.
Obviously, I figured it has something to do with cooling, but thank you for explaining the "science". I've yet to try the menthol cough drop trick, but sounds like a 'cool' analogy.
Got me wondering about how some members report getting worse mileage in cold weather and maybe the cold air/increased hp affects mileage.

Couple things probably going on with that. A lot of areas (like pretty much everywhere I've lived in Texas) switch to E10 gas for the winter. It is up to 10% ethanol and will negatively impact mileage.

On a more positive note, cooler air is denser and has more O2 in it. Turbo engines get a synergistic benefit in winter because they get more O2 and they have even cooler air blowing across that intercooler - so there is a nice compounding effect of cooler intake air AND better cooling of it. All that makes more power. More power uses more fuel.

How much for everything? I wanted a new intercooler. I can really feel the difference in the 90°plus high humidity days. Feels sluggish hoping an intercooler will Help. I only run 93 octane and seeing the numbers has me salivating. I already built a 3.5" exhaust and Cai. Hoping to unleash some hp from the baby ecoboost.

On a more positive note, cooler air is denser and has more O2 in it. Turbo engines get a double boost in winter because they get more O2 and they have even cooler air blowing across that intercooler - so there is a nice compounding effect of cooler intake air AND better cooling of it. All that makes more power. More power uses more fuel.
Makes total sense, Thanks for educating me.

I'm sure you could run the Cobb baseline 93 oct map with sport tcm and then consider a custom tune if you have more parts and want to get the most out of them.

e85 is a thing in the US because of massive subsidy to the corn farmers and ethanol refineries. probably no other nation stupid to burn perfectly good food 😃

But but but the carbon!
Crazy how all the hybrid guys talk about how clean they are while ignoring the fact that is it was truly about carbon we would be tuning e85.
But I agree I prefer cheaper corn. But I do love $2 a gallon race fuel.
