I ran across this and I thought it was interesting.

This is largely focused on Toyotas, but it's an interesting description on how eCVTs work -- and Ford uses pretty much the exact same system in the Hybrid.

Very entertaining but I take issue with two things: One, the Maverick hybrid is actually very fun to drive in my experience and two, I also enjoy the pretentious personality of sport mode which for a period of time you can almost imagine you're driving a conventional ICE propelled vehicle.
And I have to practice his impression of a conventional transmission running through the gears at high rpm. That was impressive. Makes me wonder why Michael Winslow never did anything like that in Police Academy. Or did he?

Very cool. Only question unanswered is how does towing work?
That's where you hook up a trailer to the back of your vehicle and pull it. 😆

But it mostly works how you expect it to. There's plenty of torque in the system when it's beefed up properly.

No different.

Except the RPM desired range of the ICE will be more at the best torque instead of best efficiency side, on any inclines.

I like how he handled the outlying cases of too much regen, extra torque, ect.
And how it starts the ICE. Get it gently up to speed for the oil pressure - then add fire!
That's not always included in the comments.

I still wish someone would hook the 3 input sources up to actual small motors, have a display for RPM, and have some gearing that matches about 1000 x reduction in RPM.
Then just hand control some levers to change RPM.
At least I find it interesting to see the log files graphed and the changes that occur, and to visually see it happen would be interesting too.

Weber State University has a great video as well. Ford and Toyota collaborated on this system, and they are virtually identical for each manufacturer. So this being for a "Rav4" is a moot point, they work the same in the Maverick and Escape hybrids, (as well as other Ford Hybrids with ECVTs), and Toyota models with ECVTs, including Prius, Corolla, Corolla Cross, Camery, Highlander, etc.

Check it out!

Works great towing my 3000lb travel trailer even up steep hills!

From the video - so depending on how close the Ford 2.5 is to the Toyota 2.5.
I looked for this BTE chart awhile back for Ford's engine - perhaps it exists now or I just didn't search well.
