Last month when I did my Gentex mirror install I noticed that there was no glove box light I cant recall the last vehicle I owned that did not have one heck even my 70 Pinto had one back in the day..
None the less I decided if Ford was to cheap to install one I would so it was off to the wrecking yard in search of a donor... Found lots of options and snagged several choices but ended up with all the needed components from a 98 BMW 740..
The light assembly, the switch, their associated plugs and as much of the wiring as I could cut without to much work..
Next with all the necessary components in hand it was time to start figuring out where to install them.. Decided to center the light in the glove box frame so I taped it off and laid out the lights dimensions on the back / inside portion on the frame... Started by drilling the corners with a 1/8'' hole and tried to use a model craft saw but the plastic was to sticky?? so I ended up using a utility knife with a new blade...
Next was the switch location did not really want to see the switch so I installed it in the lower left portion of the frame...
Built my wiring harness with the pigtail / plugs I removed from the BMW and laced it out on the frame and installed light and switch...
Gave it a bench test just just because...
Now it was a matter of just reinstalling the frame and glove box back in the truck and completing the wiring by taping the positive lead into fuse #20 with a add a fuse tap and grounding the negative to the BCM mounting lug
Looks like a factory install to me and the wife well she'll like it too............
