I have driven only 700k since I picked up my Maverick XLT and when I drove around a corner in a ally andI heard a pop and an eight inch crack developed right up the center from the base of the windshield.
No cars or trucks in front to create and debris and nothing hit the glass.
It just cracked when I made a tight turn.
Hope the warranty covers it.
Wow that sounds like a stress/pressure crack. Maybe misaligned or something from the factory?

Well after checking with a glass repair company to see what caused my crack in the windshield.
It was a tiny chip that expanded and caused extra stress when I took a corner and drove over a small bump at the same time. So no warranty 😔.
I then got a quote from them and when I said insurance the cost came to $1384.00 Canadian.
I guess I will wait till after spring to change it.

Wholly cats! You said you told them insurance. Insurance wouldn't pay, though? Or, was it too big a dedutable?

I wonder what the price would've been if you had said cash?

I have heard of people getting ticketed for having a cracked windshield due to visibility obstruction, but I don't know how common that is. Would have to be a pretty picky cop or one who knew you've been driving with it for a while.

I had my 2022 Lariat a couple months and got a crack from rock thrown up in highway driving.. fortunately for my, my dealer offered some windshield protection insurance when i bought the Mav. At the time, not really sure i wanted/needed it but glad i did. Windshield was replaced at no cost to me and it‘s still in force for another 6 years.

Almost a month and no report from the OP...

Was the carwash a touchless one?

Read somewhere that windshield on Lariat is thicker...
i also believe that to be true. the Lariat package on my 23 hybrid was advertised as having a 'noise reducing' windshield, thicker glass & better laminate between layers would not only reduce outside noise but should also be more robust and crack resistant as well.

by the way when i purchased my '23 Lariat the dealer F&I guy was VERY persistent in trying to sell me add on windshield replacement insurance. his pitch was that the glass was cracking in the field and insurance companies were denying these claims on a regular basis. $1300 add on that i refused, my ins agent told me that i'm already covered for that kind of stuff. as always your mileage may vary so i advise you to check your policy.

I did say I had insurance.
Then came the itemized bill. What gets me is 3.5 hrs labour.
It is the beginning of winter and here in Calgary where I live, this city uses alot of crushed rock, sand and salt mix on the roads.

Unless the situation gets worse, I will wait until spring road clean to replace the windshield. Don't need another rock incident.

Does anyone think that a hood wind deflector help??

I don’t think the bug deflector will have any effect on rocks hitting the windshield. I’ve got plenty of bugs as proof of the bug deflector doesn’t do anything for the windshield.

Now, what makes it worth the money is the front part of the hood is protected.
PS. I’m in TX now. 😊

Also in Calgary-ish...
1 chip in October, 2 more since Monday. 3rd one is already starting to spider a bit... And it's right in front of driver's view so it will need to be replaced sooner rather than later.

I appreciate the quote you shared. We were debating whether it was worth running through insurance or not (deductible is $250); clearly worth it.

I think we may add a protective film on the next one, depending on cost. I'm not convinced a deflector will help (based on my experience with 1 about 25 years ago, so a very limited sample size).

I heard over 2 million Maverick windshields have cracked. Too bad you don't have a Jeep Wrangler - you can get a Gorilla windshield that has stronger glass.
And still get cracks.

If you dont want to go the insurance route you can check with independent installers, had my wifes Hyundai windshield replaced (at the house) for $600 when Safelite wanted $875.

thin/soft glass seems to be a common complaint industry wide. glass is heavy an obvious target for weight reduction.

from Rivian forum
It Happened AGAIN! Three for three, my windshield has been hit three times by pea sized (or smaller) pebbles and all three cracked the windshield! This glass cant take being hit by anything. Hell, Im afraid to spray glass cleaner on it for fear the bubbles might crack it. I'll be on my third windshield in 10 months. Ridiculous.
Never had a vehicle with such fragile glass. Mercedes 7years, zero cracks, volvo, 10 years zero cracks, current toyota 4 years, zero cracks, current Mazda 2 years, zero cracks, Rivian 10 months, 3 impacts & 3 cracked windshields.

My Safelite quote was around $1800
I am having same problem. 3rd windshield and 5 repairs. I know this thread is over a year. Are you still having problems

Guess I wasn't clear. The example noted was to show it isn't a Maverick only issue but wide spread. do you own googling.

There is some geographical data pointing to dry areas and metro intensive areas.
Arizona has the most auto glass claims, despite having a relatively small population. Between 2015 and 2019, Arizona policyholders filed 2,655,567 auto glass claims, which was more than California and Texas, despite those states having much larger populations.
Top five states for auto glass claims ·
No. 1: Arizona
No. 2: Florida
No. 3: California
No. 4: Texas
No. 5: New York

In over 50 yrs on the road I've never had to replace a windshield, even on my Jeep. I did repair one chip/star on a 2000 Ranger that was 5 yr successful til traded.
I carry a repair kit and a USB powered UV light for curing just in case as should you.

Welp... a club I did not want to join. Got in the Maverick this afternoon and my wife noticed a small crack in the top right corner. starts at the top about 3" from the A-pillar and travels about 4-5" to the A-pillar about 3" down from the top. (like the Hatch bypass so you don't have to take the right angle in Las Cruces). Can't see any obvious chips... Last nights temp was 50degF and it sored to 91 by noon.

Lariat, so it has the extra laminated quiet glass. Truck is 11 months old with 12,500 miles. I need to travel NOB 2nd week of January, so maybe I'll have the windshield, TPMS sensors constantly loosing comms, and the rear seatback latch (there's a replacement part available) all taken care of at Horne Ford in Nogales AZ.

Windshields are too thin ,only about an 1/8 inch thick ,ya really . Go look ! two super thin pieces of glass and clear plastic in between .I'm surprised bugs dont crack it . Ford should recall these and put in thicker windshields . Seems more and more Mav owners having this problem & just going to get worse, one guy here is on his 3rd. It is a safety issue.
Someone posted recently he was on #4!
