Could be coincidence, but I had 2 chips in two months before the hood deflector and 0 in 26 months since.

Was that the standard WeatherTech hood protector?

I have yet to find a car forum where there are no complaints about windshield and paint chips. "The glass is thin/cheap. The paint is thin/cheap." Doesn't matter the decade or the make.

The glass is garbage. My Lariat windshield is very soft and has lots of pitting.

I got a nice crack up by the sensors/camera (black plastic) area of the windshield. Had it replaced with a non OEM windshield (still an acoustic one) and so far so good. I think it's perhaps better than the OEM Ford one.

All OEM glass has to meet FMVSS standards. Variances between base level OEM minimum & optional glass upgrades play a negligible role in it's ability to resist chipping.

Lariat windshield cracked 2 weeks in. Random rock thrown up on the freeway, not even around any big trucks.

Would like to do better based on all the complaints. I haven't had a windshield replaced in probably 10 years, just the occasional chip filled. This is definitely different.

Aftermarket glass better?

25,000kms on mine. 2 large chips and dozens of little pits in the glass, almost all of it from rock salt on the roads during the winter months.

I would like to know how many of us are having problems with the poor-quality windshield and getting chips from tiny objects hitting it. At 8,000 miles, I have 4 chips in the windshield, and none of them were from large objects. I thought I had read that many of you had the same problem. I am planning to try and get Ford to do something about it, but knowing the number of incidents would be helpful.

Just turned 20K and have multiple small chips.

It's well known that Ford switched to low quality soft glass a long time ago. Good luck getting them to 'do something about it'.

I would like to see some truth to your statement,I believe there are safety standards for auto glass hardness. You should not make stuff up.

I made it ~7000 miles before I got a crack in the windshield. Long winding one in the upper center. Once it grows a couple inches into my driver visibility, I'll have to replace the windshield.

First windshield crack I've ever gotten while driving. I never noticed any impact.

I had a chip in the top center of my windshield on my 23 Maverick and could not be repaired. I had to replace the windshield. Safelite indicated that any chip in the black area of the windshield could not be repaired due to the sensor behind the black shade area. This chip occurred on the highway by a large truck.
Luckily, I purchased insurance to cover the windshield.

Please note that all manufacturers of cars these days have more and more complaints about windshields cracking easier than they used to. This is not a Ford problem but an industry wide problem.
