Well - that's basically the pre-25MY's you are referencing. Had to manually go sign up for the free year.
So they already did that route.
Take rate was probably so low - they threw it in automatically for the 25MY - hoping owners would keep and pay for the service.
I'm betting the take rate will be just as bad when the free year is done.

Your hotspot is gone - ohhhh.
So anyone in your truck using a tablet that requires wifi is hosed. I think the kids will make it.
I have never understood why people would want to pay for a Wi-Fi hotspot in a vehicle. Pretty much everyone's phone has unlimited data and they're already paying for a hotspot or some type of plan. Paying for this twice just doesn't make any sense.

Well... my phone (paid for by work) has unlimited data, and there are plenty of free hotspots in fast food places and stop interstate rest areas, but that doesn't let my daughter watch Stranger Things on her laptop (particularly because my ATT phone doesn't have the option of using it as a hotspot).

So, there are good use cases for it. Same as Starlink.

But again, I wouldn't get an open-ended or long-term subscription.

-ks

Yes it seems my phone is working, and I just remembered we made several phone calls while we were out and they worked as well, through the truck as well so that is good.

All good, either way. We only use our phones connected to the truck, anyways...not the rest of the stuff like wifi.

Cheers,

Andy
I don't use one but as I understand If you sign up for a streaming server ($15-$20/mo.) you can access Internet through their website. The streaming server converts all the data to streaming protocol and is not considered data so if you do or do not have unlimited data on your cell phone it's not considered data. Might help or not having bandwidth reduction on an "unlimited" plan. The cell phone, I believe communicates with truck through Bluetooth with data accessed through trucks WiFi or data accessed through cell frequencies. Data is tallied by cell phone data plan or not tallied streaming service if that matters.

My wife and I both have plenty of data as part of our phone plans. 100 GB each, so we use our phone data plans when we are out and about.

I should look around though to try and change my data plan to include Mexico...we are flying down to the Cancun area for a nice little break in Feb, so time is getting short..."gotta pull my thumb out and get'r dun"! ;-)

For others that need a data plan for their vehicle, I would guess the cost isn't too bad. I just don't get subscriptions and pay good money for something I don't need.

Have a great day,

Andy

Mine expires next month. I use Android Auto, so I see no need to renew. 😱 I am losing Alexa! Oh yeah, I turned that off the day after I got it!

You're not losing Alexa, which knows more about your Mav than Android Auto. You're merely losing advanced navigation and streaming functions (anything that needs a data source on the internet). Alexa is built into the Ford Pass app functionality.

You can use both Alexa and Android Auto. Two servants are better than one.

I haven’t seen any point in using Premium Connectivity. What do you actually get of actual use from it?
We use it for its WiFi hotspot. While we live in the greater Phoenix metro area, it’s shocking how poor cell phone coverage is in many places. The hot spot helps. I assume that’s because it’s a different carrier. I’m not sure it’ll be worth it but we’ll decide in 11+ months when our trial is up.

Good day, MavTed

See, this is just a different angle as to the service in your particular area, andnI hadn't thought of that.

Our cell service is great so I hadn't thought about weak cell service from a particular provider.

It might be in someone's interest to add the service until your current cell provider contract is over and then possibly change to a better one and then dump the extra cost of the truck connection.

Always good to see another side of the coin...different service, different needs!

Thanks for the reminder that I need to keep my mind open and see things from other perspectives.

Have a great day,

Andy

The only online feature I have used so far is the locking the truck from the app. Is that a Premium feature?
Good day,

I just went out to the garage to my 2025 Lariat hybrid and checked for you (I have gotten the message that my free trial period has expired) and it unlocked and then I locked it again and all worked as it should.

Have a good one,

Andy

Ford uses AT&T as its carrier.

Can also consider using streaming server with either truck WiFi or cell phone data plan using minimum data plan connecting through an on demand streaming server's app. Your request (just a very few bytes taking month to only use a kilo byte or less) will be sent to on demand streaming server whose reply like playing map data, or a saved utube stream, etc will be sent over free radio waves as data packets extracted by the app and played on your device of choice (phone or truck). So your data plan only bills for your requests not the received data. Many customized vision and sound possibilities!
