Anyone else having issues with their Apple CarPlay working intermittently? I’m using an iPhone 11 with mine and bought a usb c to lighting cable. Finicky as all get out sometimes. I also have previously connected my iPhone via bluetooth to my truck so many times it will just default to that connection. Another REALLY weird experience I had with this was one time I was connected via Bluetooth and playing a tune from Apple Music which sounded a little slow and all of a sudden CarPlay kicked in and the music changed keys and sped back up to normal. Really strange. Anyone else experienced this?

This will be first vehicle with apple car play. What's the general census on them and is it pretty easy to use?

Spend $60 on a wireless Carplay adapter. I never have to take my phone out of my pocket and no fiddling with a cable or a finicky lightning connector. I use a couple of right angle adapters so I can neatly stash the adapter up underneath the console.

PlantMan, do you have a link to the wireless carplay adapter you are using? I have an Iphone 11 and think the constant plugging in/out will give me premature wear. I would like to go wireless like you.
Thanks

I’m having this too iPhone 14 Pro Max, with the white OEM Apple USB - C to Lightning.

sometimes I’ll stop somewhere and start the truck back up and it’ll work, next time it won’t..

I have a carlinkit4.0, used more than half a year, so far working fine.
The dongle just stays connected to the car and should connect to your phone seamlessly. It is about the size of a credit card and about one third of an inch thick.
Hope my answer can help you.

My first car with carplay and I'm underwhelmed to say the least. My issues I've had so far are:
  • Can't scan through internet stations, have to manually navigate back and forth to select. (super safe while driving..)
  • With phone connected can't select normal FM stations
  • Sometimes radio just stops playing and have to unplug / re-plug to fix. Seems related to trying to listen to FM while phone is connected

I use this carplay adapter. You do have to get used to it taking 20-30 seconds to initialize and connect to your iPhone. I also bought a USB-A to USB-C right angle connector and a USB-C to USB-C right angle connector and stacked them so that I can plug into the lower USB-A adapter and get the short cable underneath the center console. I used industrial velco to attach the adapter underneath out of the way and out of sight.

I've had the same issue with my iphone XR. I updated the iOS, swapped cables, tried both the USBA and USBC. Also noticed that its really bad once the phone is up to full battery life. As though the phone is saying "yeah, I'm good for power i'm going to stop listening to anything coming through this connection now."

A couple things. One, that iPhone 11 might not be fully compatible. There is a point where both Apple will quit updating software for that age of phone for stuff like Carplay and likewise Ford won't be updating the car side for phones that old. We run into this a lot. Ford used to have a site for Sync that would list phones and what level of compatibility they had. Not sure they offer that same information for this version. And second I have found that if I wait a good 30 seconds to plug mine in and it works better and more consistently. If I plug it in before the system is fully booted then it tends to act up more.

You can select FM stations with the phone connected, but you have to exit Carplay. This is normal for all vehicle on Carplay or Android Auto

I feel like this is probably a dumb question now, but how do you do that?
