...because it just happened to me - I guess "What did you do to your Maverick today?" could work: I got rear ended in it :-\

No injuries. Nothing all that bad, just super annoying that it happened and the time/hassle that is upcoming to get it repaired.

I waxed it yesterday for the first time (less than month old) - so I guess it was my fault?

Man, I hate seeing these posts. Judging from other posts and pictures of similar rear enders I've seen, I sure wouldn't be surprised if insurance totals it. Sorry you have to deal with this, but glad you're okay.

Looks like it happened in a construction zone?

Unfortunately @TrailMaster is probably correct about your Maverick likely being totaled @surfstar.
Very unfortunate, glad you're okay though.

I snapped a bunch of pics underneath and it looks like the unibody/frame might be okay - no change in passenger side door gaps too. Fingers crossed. I'm guessing under 30mph when they hit me. Construction zone, yep. Still on temp tags. Never thought I'd join the sad list of people this happens too lol
First world problem, but again, annoying!

The only good thing, is if it does get total'd out now, it isn't a crazy long wait for a replacement.

Annoying irony - only a couple days ago I found out that you can add ACC to an XL. Last time I looked into it, it seemed like you needed an XLT or Lariat, so I was just about to order up the parts - and was happy to customize my XL with the features I really wanted. Time to wait and see how it goes now...

Glad you're ok.

To answer the question in your thread title... here's my reasoning for typically choosing NOT to look at similar threads. I don't come to this forum looking for misfortune, accidents, and destruction. It's unfortunate that accidents happen, but I don't get enjoyment from looking at them when they happen to others. It almost feels like it's too personal, like an invasion of privacy or something (even when an owner may choose to share such photos). I often wonder why people choose to share these photos. I've been in a crash or two, and wanting to share photos of the carnage is not something I think about when it happens.

Do other automotive enthusiast forums have threads where they consolidate & chronicle their wrecks? For the cars I've owned in the past with a following, the answer seems like no.

Great comments and I agree. I feel like the sharing of accidents on here is largely due to how long people waited for their Maverick - the majority of users are in the same boat and can greatly empathize with the "loss".
The initial rarity and wait to get a Maverick did make this feel like a tighter community, for such a "standard" vehicle. Its not some obscure European sports car, yet they can feel that way to the owners.

I think the sharing is part "misery loves company" but also the owners get some needed sympathy - these ARE first world problems, if it is a non-injury accident in such a new vehicle, yet still a huge bummer.

🍻

First World problem or not, it's a major bummer. I also think it's worthy of posting because we may learn something about why so many Mavericks seem to be getting rear ended out in the wilds of America. There seem to be a bunch reported, and as as often as not the trucks are getting totaled out.

But I agree accident reports aren't feel good stories. Even less so on motorcycle boards, but people post them up all the time.

Glad you are okay. I recommended a "RIP Maverick" topic about a year ago. But I agree it would be a little macabre.

Estimate is $5200 - I was thinking $7-8k judging how expensive auto work is. If they don't identify anything else during the process, I'll happily be wrong. After it is repaired I'll see about an diminished value claim... I just want it fixed so I can start my ACC project! An XL with adaptive cruise was my dream Maverick build lol

Do you have a tow receiver on your XL?

There was much less body damage to my Lariat and the collision shop found a small imperfection on the frame that looked like brush stroke with thick paint before the truck was painted. The frame measurements were off at the receiver by less than 1/4" on one side and less than 3/8" on the other. The boron steel the "frame" is made of is non-repairable pushing my repair estimate over $43,000...in other words, total loss

God damn that sucks, I feel for you. I still had the temp tags on mine when a woman in a white BMW smoked me, not paying attention trying to rush through the turn signal light. She was doing about 30 mph while accelerating. Caused about 10k in damages, new hood, fender, bumper, grill, headlight, wiring harness

Glad you're alright and I don't know about California laws but go after Diminished Value if they have it, it got me a nice check from the other people's insurance. I used it as a nice principal payment on my Maverick.

Yeah, factory tow package, with just the HitchSafe installed in it at the time of the accident. I believe the offending vehicle turned last minute and did not strike the hitch at all with force.

After a couple of change-orders, the final bill was $15k +/- ($0 out of pocket, but also can't claim diminished value in this case)
Truck has been good for a year since the repair, at least.
