The small battery on the Mav should last a long time and the price isn't that bad
i would think that most folks will probably never own their Hybrids long enough for Battery replacement to be a issue anyway. the 8yr/80,000 mile Hybrid powertrain warranty and lengthy track record of this system is also very assuring as well.

Yes the climate has changed a lot over a long time. What might be different this time is that it might be changing faster than it has before b/c of what humans have/are doing. The rate of change might be the issue. We're releasing carbon from fossil fuels that sat underground for millions of years.

If it turns out we were worried for no reason and humanity survives - great! No harm in being wrong. If it turns out much worse than we think and we screwed ourselves by not doing what we could - well, what's the harm in driving more efficient vehicles, switching to electric heat pumps and putting solar everywhere to be safe?

Pascals wager for climate change.
well said!

Unfortunately people have made many issues political, rather than just looking at available data. :censored: Then again, it's like statistics, a lot of it is just made up (from both sides of the fence) to advance an agenda, whatever that may be. As always the truth is usually found somewhere in the middle.

Personally I picked the hybrid because I like the powertrain, not sending any more of my money than necessary to already rich oil company executives & shareholders, and putting less toxic fumes in the air I breath. 🤷‍♂️
Leave it to a Canadian to explain to another Canadian on how Americans make everything political.

You are making general statements when I think in your head you are thinking EB maverick vs. Hybrid maverick.

There are other HYBRIDS that are 4 wheel drive a tow A LOT. Short of the poles, there's not cold weather that hybrid in general can't tackle.
i honestly was not thinking EB vs Hybrids with this thread.
i was trying to spark a conversation about why i felt Hybrids writ large could/should be a larger piece of America's transition to a primarily electric vehicle fleet.
my other point was that even after that transition there will be many of us that will have no good option for re-charging their vehicles at home and that Hybrids could work really well for them.
i am fully aware that Hybrids are not for everyone for a variety of reasons, but i still feel there is a strong case to be made that they could work just fine for a lot of folks.

How about this:
Why don’t we just let people buy what they think they need?
No more force feeding vehicles people don’t want down their throats.

It is simply men trying to attract a mate and/or show off how "successful" they are to the world. Some would say overcompensating could also be at play.

Funny thing is that those type of owners also seem to complain about high gas prices - like they can't figure out the reason their $/mi is high.
Even worse are the truck owners who say they don't care if they get bad fuel economy, it's so idiotic to me. It's like, you don't care that you're spending hundreds, if not thousands of dollars more than you have to?

My devotion is to ICE and i absolutely hate hybrids and EV's. Remember, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Hybrids are just ICE, but better. Lower cost of ownership, better longevity, better fuel economy, and unlike an EV, you don't have to charge it. I can understand why some people aren't fond of EVs, but hating hybrids makes no sense to me.

Why do people mod cars or restore old cars, because they can. Its not wasting money. You dont get to take your money with you when you die.....

Exactly, money, material possessions, family, none of it matters when we're worm food. But it's still an odd thing to do to a car to me.

Exactly. The less money I spend, the more I save, the sooner I retire. Work sucks. If I can drive an XL Mav instead of a giant truck and retire a year earlier - heck yes. I make that choice everyday on how I spend my money.
Priorities.
Some people prefer shiny things and working till they're about dead.
Not me.

Great.
Why is Ford not building enough XLs? Why is Toyota prioritizing Limited Sienna $$$ over LE $$?
Profit.
Free market, yet the consumers can't even buy what they actually want bc OEMs want to make more money off you.

It would be the same thing with mpg, except we introduced CAFE and then mpg went up.

Had anyone thought of the old anecdote that to sell a car you don't sell the car, you sell the lifestyle a person wants to lead? No wonder you see such arguments about the better option because people are defending that lifestyle choice/dream most of the time.

No offense to hybrid owners but it seems like many of you are buying the lifestyle of "doing good". Trust me, I understand the desire there. My order is for a FWD ecoboost. Yup, smack dab middle of the road. Trust me I'd much rather buy a tremor and play to my lifestyle dreams of off roading often. Or to buy a hybrid and think I'm doing my part to save the world while also saving my wallet.

In truth if I bought either of those variants I'd be buying the dream and likely not materializing either. So I bought the practical option, go figure the least popular, the one no one talks about here much. The best thing I do is not drive much period, that's the king of saving the world and my $$$.

@Old Ford Guy, the hybrid doesn't get much love because honestly while being a step in the right direction, it isnt moving the needle enough. When/if it does hit the critical numbers to be "enough" it will likely be the only option available. Just keep in mind it may very well likely never succeed in being the obvious choice. It may just be a stepping stone that helped initiate change. History tells us that true change and innovation isn't a new way of doing the same old thing, its a fundamental change to how we do it. This means a different way of transporting ourselves that is fundamentally different than cars.

Side note, all electric is far from eutopia. We humans have a nasty habit of over consuming everything until its toxic. The electric future, as its currently being sold to us, likely has just as many pitfalls as fossil fuel with our habit of screwing things up. Future Eg. Since electric cars are cheap and good for the environment, Joe will buy 2 vs 1 and dispose of them for a new one more often.

Nice thoughtful write-up one above.

Batteries can and will be recycleable.
Fossil fuels, never. When they're gone, they're gone. There's enough for babies born today. But probably not for thier children. About 100 years worth.
Not long ago, it was said to be 50 years worth.

Hybrids and EV's and biofuels are taking away SOME demand, so fossil fuels we have on earth will last longer.
