Why did you choose the hybrid?

I am not a fan of turbos, but I had excepted them as a fact of life. So, when Ford offered a hybrid for more than a $1,000 less than turbo, even though I knew nothing about hybrids, I took a chance.
Having just over 700 mi on my Maverick I already know I made the right choice.

I was planning on replacing my 2012 Corolla which was running on abuse and neglect and getting minimum maintenance. I had been shopping around and knew I wanted to get a hybrid or PHEV. I tested the Kia Niro and Rav4 but wasn't ready to buy at that point. Then I saw the Maverick advertised in Summer 2021. Early September I put in the order for an XL Hybrid with no add ons with no expectations to actually purchase the truck.

I never called or looked into my order, didn't look for a VIN or shipping details or anything. Then late March 2022, my salesperson calls me to say my truck was built and should be shipped soon.

Arrived mid May 2022, test drove it and said yes. My wife argued with me for months saying that she didn't want a pick up truck and would prefer the Rav4 (and yes the Toyota is in the long run probably the better purchase), but she got in this and loved it too.

I'm 8 months into ownership, exceeded 15000 kms, did my first oil change last week, and still love the truck. I hope to keep it 10 years like I did my Corolla (funny enough, I took ownership of the truck exactly 10 years and 1 day after I bought the Corolla).

Why hybrid? Fuel economy. This truck is easier on gas than my Smart Fortwo 1.0L 3 cyl.

I'm not a fan of turbos either. Especially after seeing how expensive it was to repair the ones on my son's F-150 eco boost.

Just wanted a cheap grocery getter my canyon was going on 200k miles. The wife gets a new nice ride every couple of years. I thought lets see how cheap I can go, Bed liner, hitch, cover and floor mats. Gas was under $2 when ordered so it wasn't a consideration. Ordered July of 2021.

I wanted the gas mileage, plain and simple. The Hybrid option on the Maverick is why I stopped looking at the Santa Cruz.

Okay, that and the lower price, but the Hybrid was the bigger factor.

i bought a 3rd generation prius for uber duty because all the uber drivers recommended it. I quickly realized that i had been lied to for years about hybrid vehicles. it was not just efficient but powerful. Hybrids are horribly underrated in terms of power and acceleration. it is like they unplug the HVB to do the acceleration tests and dyno runs.

Then I noticed it was a beltless engine. no alternator no starter and most importantly no clunky transmission. just change the engine oil once a month, the coolant once a year, the ECVT oil once a year and the spark plugs every other year.. all while getting 48 MPG no matter how hard i drove it.

When your driving 1500 miles a week that is a huge savings especially when you consider that i can not earn money while the car is down for maintenance.

When i learned that Ford uses the same powertrain design as Toyota I started looking at Ford hybrids too. Then my prius got rear ended and the used car market went crazy. Both Toyota dealers in town flat out refused to custom order a Rav4 hybrid at MSRP so I called my local Ford dealer and they happily took my order over the phone. no deposit required on the last day the order banks were open. My Mav "should" be here in a couple of days.

This is car #50 for me and i think it will be the only one that may knock the Toyota hybrid off its throne for Rideshare duty.

Why did you opt for the hybrid over the ecoboost powertrain?

What benefits other than fuel savings does a hybrid offer?

I didn't go looking for a hybrid. It was just the only Maverick on the lot. After seeing what the fuel economy is on it I am quite pleased with it!! Just wish they had it in AWD.

But the winter fuel economy is only 57.2 MPG. (43-46°F and I was lucky to hit 9 of 10 green lights on the way home tonight)
