I would still try to get to the bottom of it and remove it, but no one is going to notice that level of surface contamination on a trade-in. Most would just assume sap, or that some animal left some residue for you.
Went fo Ford dealer today. Tech said believes Sap is it. He tried a rotary pad soft and some cream without results. Another tech his supervisor, I guess said Sap. First guy said come back Monday and I will try something else free of charge on a spot. What a nice man.

He also said earlier in the conversation that may have to sand it 2000, 3000 grade and the polish. Don't know much about that.

I thank you for your thoughts on trade in value or sale. That gave me a bit of hope. This was my first auto that was new.

Always had 15 year old problemed cars, meaning had to keep them running. So I saved 1000 each year for 20 years and bought the maverick.

I'd talk to a paint pro - lost of body shops do body work and turn the painting over the a paint specialist (or paint employee)...I would suggest talking to a PAINT pro. Before experimenting and causing more paint damage. I'm confident that use of "Rust-o-Lem Tar & Wax Remover" applied by hand won't do any further damage.

Ok. the rust o Lem is actually offering a close out on that product 13 oz at advance auto for $3.75
So you believe that product is better then clay bar for removing etched spots?

I did go to a paint pro, at least i thought he was. Went to Ford dealership and saw two of their techs both of which said it is sap. He tried some product in a bottle and buffed it without results.
But he said come by monday and he will try again with different idea.

I still have some part of me saying that is not sap because none of the cars in my condo parking lot have those markings and I don't park truck anywhere else.

Would it help calling Ford themselves or going to another dealership

Tree Sap??
My experience with Tree Sap, it had a "Tactile" surface to it..
And it came off with the store bought, Bug and Tar remover..
With ALL the stuff, you (and Tech's ) have tired. And with NO effect..

With no other auto in your parking area, suffering from the same effect...
You collected some "Liquid" while driving...

My little voice says.. Paint/Clearcoat Damage... 🙁

Jerry
I believe your right about your little voice. Since clear coat is part of the cars body should any damage of it be protected under the 3 year warranty since "the clear coat doesn't keep sap from being etched into it's coat for 3 years"?

Why have clear coat on a car if the clear coat doesn't prevent a reasonable outside agent from being etched into the clear coat (etched).

Do you think Ford would except that as reasonable and therefore fix it under warranty?

To me "Clearcoat" is more of a "Visual" enhancer.
Giving your car a nice "Shiny Coat"...

As far as Warranty... One way to find out..

Yes, if it was me. I would be a bit bummed.. :cautious:

Google's definition of "Clear Coat":

Clear coat is a transparent, outermost layer of paint that acts as a protective shield for a vehicle’s color coat and primer, defending against UV rays, oxidation, scratches, and environmental contaminants like tree sap or bird droppings. It enhances gloss, adds depth, and prevents paint from fading or peeling.

Glad you brought to my attention. Since google said clear coast protects the paint and the sap is etched itself into the clear coat, it will eventually go into paint. Therefor since sap is no longer on the surface only and within the clear coat: Do I have descent chance/ opportunity for Ford to rectify the issue since under warranty?

I'd guess ZERO chance it's Ford's responsibility.

The Maverick is an economy vehicle...with an economy paint job, probably two thin coats of color before Clear Coat. Most more expensive vehicles have 3 or 4 coats of color, sometimes 5 or 6 coats of color paint, then 1 clear coat.

I measured the thickness of my Mavericks paint today. 2.9 to 3.6 mils. Pretty thin, and also very hard and brittle.
My Wife’s Avalon measured at 5.1 mils and my Forester is at 4.6 mils.
Definitely a cheap economy finish.

industry standard is 4.3 to 5.0 mils.

There is nothing there to "remove"....whatever caused it has etched the clear coat. If it really bugs you, your only recourse is to wet sand & polish, which needs to be done by a professional, or someone that knows what they are doing. Otherwise, it will be made even worse. Time to find a good paint shop, or accept it and move on. (which is what I would do...it's not a show car)

Its not a show car. Yes that is right. That will help me to move on. But going to dealer where a guy who examined said he would try something today on a couple of spots, as no cost. See what happens. thanks for thoughts. Not going to pay Big money for repair. Live with it if something not positive today

Dealer tried to sand it with 1500 and polish it. They could remove the spots. The spots continue to surface on the hood more and more. I wash it or and rinse it every day to monitor if more dots appear.

I am not under any trees there is no surface feel on top of clear coat from the dots.
As time passes more dots continue to appear. I am not sure when it will stop. Maybe the last dot has stopped today. See tomorrow.
