Do they only come with one key?

Even if the new key wouldn't start the car, leaving it in the ignition all the time seems like a great way to get your window broken by someone who thinks they can just jump in and steal itI had a key cut for my XL, thinking that I could leave the key in the ignition permanently.... and the fob in my pocket . Didn't work , the new key failed to start the truck, regardless of how close to the ignition switch the fob
was held.
Also, I should warn you, the Mav key is VERY expensive to duplicate.

Currently come with 2 identical keys.Do they only come with one key?
I found a blank key fob for the push button start mav on eBay $27. Haven’t had it programmed yet so not sure it’ll work but it looked identical to one I have other than doesn’t have blue oval on it.I know a locksmith can cut keys but they are few and few between where i live.i know ford can do it but they are expensive .does anyone know if anyone on the internet can cut one.or if nothing else sale me a blank key.
I got them no named remotes from evilbay before for a dodge grand caravan. They typically work for about 3 months or so then weird out. I wont do that again.I found a blank key fob for the push button start mav on eBay $27. I bought my Mav used and it only had 1 key didn’t want to pay over $200 for one at dealer so thought I’d give it a try.I got them no named remotes from evilbay before for a dodge grand caravan. They typically work for about 3 months or so then weird out. I wont do that again.
Who knows. This may work well for you. I had continuous failures with the aftermarket dodge remotes. Finally just left the van unlocked lolI bought my Mav used and it only had 1 key didn’t want to pay over $200 for one at dealer so thought I’d give it a try.

It‘s possible in the future that XL and XLT will come with one key fob with built in remote, and one basic key without the remote. However, this is only if Ford is unable to secure enough of the standard IKT keys.
It’s easier/quicker/cheaper to program a 3rd key rather than a replacement 2nd, unless things have changed recently. If you have 2, there’s a process to use the first 2 to validate ownership that you can generally do yourself. Basically involves inserting both keys back to back in the ignition. Lariat with push button start uses the emergency backup spot for the key fob as it has no ignition cylinder. Usually an easy DIY process if the dealer insists on charging $100+ for programming. If you only have 1 (or 0), that requires the dealer authenticating ownership through registration documentation, then using their computer to connect to the car and program a new key.
Programming is necessary both for the remote lock/unlock/etc, but also for the PATS chip (Passive Anti Theft System, essentially Ford’s engine immobilizer). If a recognized PATS key isn’t found, the vehicle won’t start no matter how well the key was cut.
Ha! I just talked to my Ford salesman about a 3rd key today. Found out my Ford points weren't enough and was surprised at the price. You can go to your dealer to get a 3rd key if you want. They will need to see some pertinent information before ordering a key for you. Your insurance card / registration card which has the vin# of your truck, and your drivers licence to match up to your registration / insurance card to prove it's actually you wanting the key, and not somebody wanting to buy a copy to steal your ride. Then you pay them, and wait a few weeks. Viola they will call you when the key gets there. Pre cut, pre programmed just for your truck.
I have that 42,000 "Ford Bux" points in my account from buying my truck. I think the value is $210. There isnt anything in the Ford catalog I want that I either like, or I can buy elsewhere cheaper, so I can use it to buy a 3rd key if I want it. The second key is sitting in my gun safe along with the unused second keys for my old chevy pickup, wifes Impala, chevy HHR, and my 07 mustang GT. Or I could just use the points for buying replacement oil filters @ $5 each when I need them.
How much?Ha! I just talked to my Ford salesman about a 3rd key today. Found out my Ford points weren't enough and was surprised at the price.
Don't remember the price exactly but I think it was about $220. The remote start fob was more than twice that. How much?
