Where to get extra XLT key?

I know a locksmith can cut keys but they are few and few between where i live.i know ford can do it but they are expensive .does anyone know if anyone on the internet can cut one.or if nothing else sale me a blank key.

Any key cutter can cut a key, even some hardware stores will do it, but programing a fob if that is what you are after, that's a little more difficult and likely requires a dealer or experienced Ford tech.

Trouble is you have to have the software to do it, that means a dealer or an ex-Ford tech with their own shop that has the stuff to do it. Either way it's not cheap.

Also I hope you kept the barcode that came with your keys, you'll need the numbers/code from that for programing.

Depends, if you just want an extra key to open the tailgate or doors it would be fine. Ignition, you need the fob with the chip to disable the factory immobilizer.

I had a key cut for my XL, thinking that I could leave the key in the ignition permanently.... and the fob in my pocket . Didn't work , the new key failed to start the truck, regardless of how close to the ignition switch the fob
was held.

Also, I should warn you, the Mav key is VERY expensive to duplicate.

As far as keys - shouldnt be too long before the programmers we locksmiths use are updated to do the Mavericks. Im guessing 6 months.

Yeah, I'm just gonna bite the bullet. Plus, buying an extra one means I'll never lose the first one.

Didnt your XLT come with 2 keys? My extra is in my gunsafe. Will likely stay there next to my original second set of key for my old silverado.

They should come with two keys, unless something has changed recently.

Thats what they are hoping you think too ! It is certainly maybe easier if you are getting something else done...... however much much more expensive. On most late model Fords my price is hundreds less than the dealership for a second key.

No you can't just go anywhere to get an extra key, these are side cuts & need special electronic box to program, I know a locksmith & he said the cost of this is too high for the amount of keys he could ever sell. Dealer only for now.
