Being a homeowner and recent landlord, I think it is time to buy a pickup truck. I don't need anything huge and I don't plan on towing anything. Just some basic Home Depot runs, and household chores. I have test driven the Maverick, the Tacoma and Ridgeline. All seem to meet my needs but I do like the compactness of the Maverick. I know that the consensus is to stay away from any car released the first year.

Should I stay away from the 2022?
Should I go with the ecoboost or Hybrid?
I have noticed many used 2025 Lobo's available. Carmax currently has 5 used Lobo's all under 6K miles. Are there an issue with the Lobo's?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You're going to get the full range of responses, from the ones saying the Hybrid sucks to the ones saying the ecoboost is junk, LOL.
You're really the only one to answer the question of which is best for you. The Hybrid will give you great fuel mileage for the around town dump runs and trips to your local home improvement store.

Like most auto manufacturers, Ford has had some quality control issues, and this site, and the internet in general, is chock full of reports of one issue or another. That being said, my '23 Tremor has been trouble free other than occasionally the infotainment system can be slow to sync up with my phone - mine is an XLT, so no sync 3. Seems to be extremely picky about the quality of the cable used to connect the phone.

I will say that if you're looking at Carmax or Carvana prices... they're prices aren't much lower for thier used vehicles than you can buy new a new one for, especially the lower mileage examples, and even more so if your looking at a Lobo which is a '25 model

Here’s my $.02. I’m 82 & have maintained for the most part my own vehicles since I was 14.
in my opinion Maverick is an exception concept. I’ve owned a new 24 Lariat Hybrid & a new 24 XLT Lux FX4, 4K. Tow. To me it’s the execution that’s flawed. Assembly in Mexico was good for me. Paint was good, fit & finish was good.
To me quality of interior parts was the issue. I didn’t care for the seats and upholstery in the Lariat. XLT LUX FX4 was more comfortable to me. BOTH my Mavericks had horrible dash and interior rattles (Dash and above headliner). Always drove mine on paved roads, but any slight roughness caused loud and irritating plastic to plastic rattles, especially when temp below 70 degrees.
The XLT FX4 rode better than the Lariat. Hybrid functioned great, except went to sleep daily, but always started. (Due to non AGM battery at assembly). XLT/FX4 EcoBoost was flawless, shifted great. It just really rattled. I followed numerous “fixes” found on this forum, some helped, but didn’t totally correct.
So, please take a thorough test drive over less than “smooth” pavement.
i really liked the flexibility and size, just not the interior rattles.
i drive a 23 Ridgeline RTLE and am very happy with it.
Again this is just my opinion and have owned Rangers, F150, Bronco Sport, in the last 15 years.
Good luck with your decision, & it’s your decision, you asked got my thoughts.

My rule with used vehicles is simple, look for damage and obvious problems. It helps if you have basic mechanical knowledge, if not there are plenty of guides online for what to watch for. If there is service history available, look over it carefully. If buying from an individual, listen to how they talk about the vehicle, people with bad experiences often show it, one way or another. From a dealership, do the same with history and over all appearance.

Always get an independent mechanical inspection. Anyone, dealership or individual who won't allow this isn't worth your time.

Welcome to the Maverick Truck Club, Manny.

My take on this is that most likely you are better off to buy a new Maverick. They hold their resale value almost too well, especially the Hybrid. Used Mavericks are not reasonably priced. My low mileage 2023 Hybrid is still worth almost what I paid for it.

As for Hybrid or EcoBoost, or which trim level, those entirely depends on your wants, needs, and budget.

Not necessarily, if that's all that is in your price range. Obviously the newer ones are "usually" better, depending on your must-haves.

For example, if you think the "AUTO" setting on HVAC systems is a deep-state conspiracy, you should stick to 2024 and earlier, because the newest models don't have as many physical buttons to fiddle with. Mind you, many think the AUTO setting is serviceable, and don't feel the need to touch the temperature every five minutes.

Should I go with the ecoboost or Hybrid?
Up to you; each has their benefits. Now that 2025 and up have AWD and 4K tow packages available, the hybrid seems like a fabulous choice if you care at all about efficiency.

No. They are probably the least "trucky" of all the variants, but they have features and benefits that no other trim level has. Not sure if there is any trend of buyers' remorse there, because ultimately they are an uplevel Maverick, admittedly without a hybrid system or 4K tow package available.

Having had a '22 Lariat Hybrid First Edition, I'd probably stay away from the '22. First year issues. If you are thinking of a hybrid remember that '24 and back have had 12v battery issues mainly related to the fact they weren't using AGM batteries and I think some software issues as well. My '25 hybrid has the AGM and hasn't had any of the sleep issues. Honestly the '25 Lariat is just better in about every aspect.

Any DIY electrical work, you can only guess what somebody has done to the computer coding with ForScan it isn't something that you can see, dremel cuts into the plastic interior, suspension work...etc

Well, unfortunately I will not be a member of this fantastic Maverick group. I found a great deal on a 2024 Toyota Tacoma that I couldn't pass up. I appreciate all the advice and recommendations!
