My "short list" of differences:
  1. Smaller than the "mid-sized" trucks (which are now as big as "full-size" trucks were 10 years ago).
    • Fits in my very small garage.
    • Don't need a step or running boards to climb in.
    • Can reach items in the truck bed without climbing in.
    • Tailgate is a convenient height to sit on in a parking lot.
  2. Best fuel mileage of any truck
  3. Payload equal or better than many "base" mid- and full-size trucks (though I guess that is technically a "similarity")
  4. Price significantly lower than any other new truck for sale in US. My Lariat Hybrid First Edition with every option available cost less than a base Ranger XL.
  5. Unibody construction yields SUV-like (vs "truck-like") ride and handling.
My friend, you NAILED IT AND KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK. I had not even thought of some of these. Glad you are enjoying your Maverick. Yes, we are a somewhat strange breed - that's why its a Maverick.

Maverick ... means old people that bought a Maverick car in the 1970's buy a Maverick in the 2020's... Tells my age!
Same here, only I had the Mercury Comet - same car, but different names. Seems like a lot of us old timers are enjoying our Mavericks. Well, let me re-phrase that. One poster here called us "Advanced Middle Age People." Kinda like that better. Hope you enjoy your Maverick as much as I do mine.

Where did the name Maverick come from? According to Merriam Webster and historical sources it goes back to the early 19th century when a client gave a South Texas rich lawyer named Samuel A. Maverick some unbranded cattle to settle a debt. Mr. Maverick had no need for them, so just let them roam free unbranded. Later the term began to be used for something free spirit, non-conformer or someone who blazes their own trails. This describes the Ford Maverick – non-conforming trail blazer.

With that in mind, what makes the Maverick different? We all know it is a truck, but a different truck. Just thought I would get your response as to what makes your Maverick different than a Taco, Santa Claus (sorry about that, Santa Cruz), Ranger, Colorado, Frontier, etc. I think we all admit that there is nothing quite like it on the road (even for the few of you do not like it). It indeed is a MAVERICK.

Let me get the ball rolling on what makes it a trail blazing non-conformist.
  • Pricing and equipment for pricing. Who would have thought within the last few years you would get cruise, power windows, power locks, back-up camera, carpeting, 4 full doors, etc. on a BASE truck for under $25K?
  • Fuel economy. Not much needs to be said here, even EB blows away the competition (that’s right, there is no real competition), and the Hybrid leaves it so far behind, you cannot see it in the rear view mirror.
Your thoughts?
Thought Ford just Recycled the name for their old Car from back in the 1970’s.

It's an old Native American word meaning; "couldn't afford F-150" 😂
Funny post, but just thought I'd say why I'm trying to go with a Maverick.

I went with trying to get a Maverick over the F-150 or Ranger. Not because of price, but because of size. My Family has had a handful of newer Dodge Ram 1500s and currently has a Ford F-150 Raptor. Those things were/are boats. I don't need a truck everyday I just need one for the few times I need a bed to move things. Plus I like the aesthetic of a truck.

Went with the Tremor because it snows here. We get 2 or 3 really bad storms a year. Figure the Advanced 4WD will help in really bad spots. Plus my current Ranger gets 14 mpg. That's the estimate new haven't checked it in years just fill her up so probably less than that (since it's an '09). So even 20-23 mgp would be a nice increase!

I'm actually 35 and trying to get one. Love small trucks and I think they look sharp.

Kenny Scott Caldwell. KSC Is a old gentleman Ghost very light grey in color who has been seen on the Kanas City Southern Train . KSC has been known to warn people of potential bad weather coming like Tornadoes !! No one knows what this ghost has picked this railway line ?? Some speculate that the light grey color of the Engines almost white may be the reason . Around 1990 the KCS changed the color of the Engines to a darker battleship grey color ⁉⁉. No one knows why what do you think ??? They say there is still some of the original engines in very light gray still on the tracks today 👻🚂👻😱👻. Boo

Old Mavericks are sweet. Lots of ways to build and get so light while still having a swoopy body!

I’m sure the name comes from that movie that Tom Cruze flies around with planes.
Then you are not old enough to remember the poker playing brothers, Bret and Bart Maverick in the 1957-1962 Maverick TV series.

I think the Ridgeliner, my second choice, has similar fuel economy, 18/24 mpg city/hwy. My EB 2.0 is around 17 - 19 mpg in the city with short distances driven. My Maverick driven pretty much daily since February has ~2,500 miles, seldom seen highway, even then no more than 10 - 15 miles...

Others are correct when they state the origin of the name comes from the sale of unbranded cattle in order to settle a debt and were left to roam. Only old Detroit Ford marketing employees could tell us why FoMoCo went with the name but it's amazing how the look or mood of Henry II could change a concept, at least according to Iacoca. He must have been the source of a lot of heartburn and stomach problems.

Not unusual that an automaker would resurrect a nameplate.
At any rate I choose mine because for the fact that the Escape Hybrid was well received and the price. For what you got it just couldn't be beat. The only others I considered at the $20,000 neighborhood were the Subaru Impreza, Nissan Versa and a Mitsubishi Mirage. None gave you the box and none gave you the economy. Perfect replacement for my aged S10.

Hope mine wears long and well although I doubt it'll match the 23 years of the S10. To be honest, I wish that I had opted for the full-size spare. I'd be happy with less features. Take the AC, power windows and locks, CC and climate control out and add floor vents, wing windows and crank windows. I'd wish I'd been able to get mine at that $19,995 price but I'm happy in general with what I got.
