I got an F-250 because the F-150 crew cab didn't offer an 8' bed. Next to a 90's F-350 crew cab I owned, the F-250 is the second best truck I've owned. I've also owned F-150s (regular and crew cabs) and they were just OK.

People like big trucks. Most people are not pulling horse trailers & moving 500 hp motors with those things, they're putting tools in the back or pulling a bass boat.

It's America, look at the size of restaurant meals.

Also, Gas is still cheap, even when it's expensive.
I agree with this. I also think some other conditions are contributing. My office has transitioned to only being on site 1 day a week with 4 from home. A few of my coworkers have traded in their half ton trucks for 3/4 ton trucks just because they're not driving into the office every day and some justify the higher payments being more than covered by spending far less on gas, tolls and maintenance.

The Maverick is enough 3/4 ton truck for me.

1500lb payload, I think I'll fill that 1 to zero times in it's lifetime.

Absolute ton of F350s and F350 dually's get sold here in Texas. If you work in the oil patch, construction, or have a ranch, they are pretty much mandatory. I had to buy my F350 to haul parts for my excavator. While you may see a lot of them at the grocery store and think "there is no way they need that", in most cases they do. I have several friends that pull large travel trailers either because they live out of them for work (very common with oil workers), like to travel, or have kids in "travel league" sports. There are very few people that would buy a $80k+ truck just for show (at least in my part of Texas). If you are going to drop that much money, you have a reason. For at least half that get sold in my area, they are just viewed as a business expense and tend to get replaced every few years once they get up to the 200k-300k mile range.

I would say most people that get an F-250 and bigger use it for work of some kind, even if that is a hobby farm or the like. If you need to move animals, feed, or heavy equipment, an F-150 isn't going to cut it. If I had two vehicles it would be a hybrid Maverick and an F-250. I get by with the 4K Maverick for most stuff, but I need to get big stuff delivered and coordinate with a neighbor if I am moving anything more than an couple animals. And these days delivery fees are getting enough to start justifying my own vehicle. I would like to have a snow plow as well.

A lot better than many places:

" As a general rule, richer countries have higher prices while poorer countries and the countries that produce and export oil have significantly lower prices. One notable exception is the U.S. which is an economically advanced country but has low gas prices. "

USA is 30th on the list, most of Europe is double or more: https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/gasoline_prices/

The reason they sell so many aside from their used is the tax systems. People with small real work type companies buy em and just use em as daily drivers, but their daily driving is for their work. So they throw em in the mix of their business expense tax write offs and barely pay for em. Thats why you see super dutys everywhere hauling 1 job box and a magnet with their name on the door. We technically own a farm even though its just 3.5 acres with a few coconut and banana trees, and 3 offgrid cabins for us, but if we wwanted to do all the farm plans, development loans, etc, etc. We could probably buy a newer used one with out a ton of costs. Too much hassle though.

Think there are a lot of people concerned with getting the EV stuff jammed down their throats.

If my garage was big enough a F250 7.3L gasser would be my choice. But the Maverick gets in the garage so its the one.

Just maybe many fear they will be legislated out of existence? Get them while they can.

If you need a heavy duty truck for hauling or pulling an RV or for construction work of any kind Ford offers the best trucks out there for most people. Like everything else, there has been a shortage of these for the past few years due to chip constraints. Why there's a pent-up demand right now. And the prices they aren't anything close to the $40,000, most of the ones I've tested are $80 - 90k. ;)
Yep, it's the age-old economic standard: high demand, low supply = higher prices.

They're already doing that in CA. Gasoline powered vehicles to be phased out by 2035.

folks have work that slows down in winter. they attach plows to their trucks, maybe even a tailgate mounted salter for extra income.... that alone takes you from F150 to F250....

When I had a landscaping business a life time ago... I had an 02 F550, 2 05 F350s, and an 04 F150. I took on winter snow removal to keep good employees working year around. The 550 had a 9' municipal duty plow and a bed mounted salter, the F350's had 8' v-Plows and tailgate mounted slaters... The F150.... it was good for hauling around 2 big snow blowers...

For fall leaf removal... the F350s had leaf vacs attached and removal dump bodies. THe F150 was good for hauling around an equipment support trailer w/ push blowers, rakes, a Z-Turn, etc...

Fast forward to summer... The F150 was a good owners/foreman's truck (me).. I could fairy equipment back and forth for crews... But the F350s and F550 did the heavy work, day in day out.

I'd say outside of fleet, split it into thirds

1/3 are big haulers and people who extensively use them.
1/3 are weekend warriors or "haul the boat a few times a year"
1/3 are for looks, status and big truck!

Debate all you want about the legitimacy of the above but overbuying vehicles is a proud American tradition.
