New 2024 XL owner here. I was advised to download the FordPass app and have done so. What does it do for me? Sorry for being dumb...

Gives you remote start, remote lock and unlock, vehicle location when parked, Miles to empty, oil change info, tire pressure and more.

Steals your data and ford sells it to insurance companies who in turn raise your rates

Well… that is two differing philosophies. I’m not saying either of them is incorrect.

Truthfully, for me, it did nothing except maybe draw my 12v battery down in the truck with it's continuous attempts to communicate with the truck. I have remote start on my fob, I remember where I park, and all the other info is available on the dash display.

Final straw was coming home from an extended vacation and first thing I noticed at the airport parking facility was that the dome lights didn't work and then the start/stop function wouldn't function(no great loss there)

Since removing the app and disabling the connectivity functions in the truck I've had no further issues.

I like the remote start ability, especially since you can do it far beyond what the Lariat key fob range is.

My phone already remembers where I park the truck, so that isn’t as useful to me, but I often park in a lot with 10,000 spaces, so it’s nice to have at least one option to remind me.

Seeing miles-to-empty, oil life, and tire pressures away from the truck can be handy but not crucial.

Above all, I think hybrid and EcoBoost owners have vastly different experiences with the app - with the hybrids maybe getting more of a raw deal sometimes. YMMV…

I'm thinking of getting Ford Perimeter Plus for both of those reasons AND with the rise in car thefts there's a third reason

How did you disable the connectivity functions in the truck?

I like the app and used it to remotely start and lock my Mav, but I don't trust what any car company might do with my personal driving data. My previous car was a Toyota that alerted me to a crossing a line when I'd safely swerved to avoid a skunk. The app collects data without context. I just got a new phone and decided to not install Ford Pass again, in part because there's no option to decline any of their terms and in part because I installed a limited number of apps because something was devouring data when I was connected to wifi on my old phone. So, I'm adding apps very slowly to see the effect.

I like the location if a family member has it and is overdue to return, and maybe handy if stolen.

Always funny to see people post about how they disable some useful feature because they don't want to be tracked. I'm a retired software engineer trained in cyber security. I've watched the information collected on users in real time using packet sniffers. Most people have no clue, and they pat themselves on the back because they blocked cookies on some app. ROTFL. You achieved nothing.

Unless you get paid in cash, do not have a Social Security number, do not have a credit card, do not drive, do not have email, do not use social media, do not use commercial productivity software, do not browse the Web, do not ever walk past millions of public security cameras, and do not ever operate any connected device - you are tracked 24x7x356 by innumerable sources. So get over it.

I find Ford Pass useful. I've started my car with it, checked oil changes with it, checked TPMS, checked vehicle location. It's cool but I wish it did more And if Ford asks me to collect information about every detail of what I do in the car - I'll happily approve it. Because that information doesn't harm me in any way. There is nobody on the planet who finds me interesting enough to monitor my personal life beyond collecting abstract and anonymized statistical information and generating personalized advertising.
