Gorgeous area!! Thanks for posting up a real world experience. It’s encouraging 🤘
It was the first time ever using L. Also, the first time travelling through the area. My dentist is in Buffalo at the Eastern edge of the Bighorns, and we took the detour for about 50 miles to Meadowlark Lake and then back down. Gotta love that over 40 mpg mileage. Was in the 20s range uphill , but I finished downhill just over 40.

L is great for hybrid. Slows down without braking and regenerates at the same time at any speed. I use it quite a bit in Bay Area congested fwys. Hope the tranny holds up. 😬

Tow mode might be more effective.
Think of "L" being computer notice to put truck into "Tow Haul" with one push of button in one second and returning to selected drive mode with a second push of the button, which you can do at ANY SPEED! I frequently use "L" button to max Regen brake from 70 to 12-15 to turn onto side road. With a little practice you can do it without touching brake pedal. Be careful because your brake lights will not be lit up so drivers behind you may be surprised so at least turn on signal but I lightly brake!

Just a follow-up. I'm in the Mt Rushmore area this week, and finally got a chance to try the Tow/Haul mode on the downhill 10% grade NE of the park. Not as great as paddle shifters and being able to actually select a gear, but much more compression braking than "Normal" mode.

EB 2.0/ 8-speed, NOT Hybrid.
