No, L is actually for keeping it in a lower gear, like the standard "PRNDL" set. Ford just used the button for the "car wash" feature as well.Think it's mostly for a car wash.

Sports mode works well too.Honestly, I did not expect such a dramatic downshift. At the time, I was at about 40mph, well under 2K rpm, and the L button brought it over 5K, so like you said, down to 3rd or 4th (out of 8).
I found an earlier thread where someone retrofit paddle shifters, which gave him incremental control of the downshifts. If I lived in a mountainous area, I would certainly consider that.

Well I’m staying in 360 pilot mode. It holds its speed on steep down grades. people ten to get highly upset set when I’m steady at same speed while they are gradually coasting up behind me with foot on brake. I just kick back and let the eco beast do its thing.'24 Lariat EB AWD, found myself on a winding downhill stretch of road in PA this week, signed at 9% grade. Figured this was as good a time as any to try the L-button and see if there was any compression braking available, damn did the rpm's shoot up to 5k+! It certainly doesn't drop just 1 or 2 gears,,,,,,

People don't actually DRIVE their cars anymore. They just baby them around and go 10k miles over on their oil changes lol. I'm not really sure why people are concerned with the engine going over 5k RPMIt is impossible for the engine RPM to be too high in a hybrid. Oh. You mean "too high for your gut feeling."
Curious where you're seeing that - is it pulled directly from the manual? It's not in the auto trans or towing section of the 2022 manual I'm looking at. It that is in the manual somewhere, it's very misleading in implying that as a general rule you should use L when towing!LOW (L) - GASOLINE In low (L) your vehicle holds low gears. Note: We recommend using this mode for driving on hilly or mountainous roads or when towing a trailer. See Towing a Trailer (page 267).

Agreed, the 2024 version mentions the towing, 2022 does not.?? 2022 page #184 does not say what YazYaz posted about L.
I don't really care, as I know what settings I should be using.. just was confused about the discrepancy.
Exactly. I was going through the Big Horns in WY Yesterday... 8% stuff. I pushed the L button and although I don't know exactly what was happening, I watched my regen scale go from about 50% without it, immediately to 100% full regen in L. The engine did not sound like it was very wound out at all. Seemed like the Regen brakeing was doing a great job of holding the truck back without excessive engine braking, nor service brakes.Great thread, albeit a bit confusing with all of the options. My takeaway with a Hybrid and no ACC, is to use the default grade assist along with tow/haul mode for starters. Use the 'L' button if it gets too crazy and I'm braking too much.
Gorgeous area!! Thanks for posting up a real world experience. It’s encouragingExactly. I was going through the Big Horns in WY Yesterday... 8% stuff.
