Short post. I'm going to do an install of a factory ish 7 pin trailer connector in place of the factory 4 flat connector. I want to weld the small rectangle left behind by the factory plug shut and then drill/cut the new hole for the new setup. I was wondering if anyone had experience welding stuff attached to the hybrid mavs and if taking the 12v leads off and using the high voltage service disconnect is enough to keep from any damage to the batteries or otherwise.

Called the local service department and he said as far as he could imagine, that would be fine but that Ford doesn't actually provide guidance anymore on how to welding on their vehicles.

If you attached the welder ground very close to the section you are welding, I can't imagine a significant current induction into the frame or surrounding conductors, that would bother any of the systems.

And make sure the ground clamp has clean, bright metal under it. I've had goofy problems from poor ground connections.

This guy just used a holesaw to create the 2" hole, plenty of room for the (4) screws.

Always need a good ground. With the cutting/welding I was planning on repainting the part anyway, so what's it matter to make a small grounding spot there too

That does end up looking nice, but I'm using the style that comes with the 4k package, the oval shape. I think leaving that hole where the 4 flat is would interfere with the clips that the new connector uses to stay in place

Understood, I'm looking at the same conversion, and I've got both the 7+4 and a round 7. I think I'm just going to use the round 7, and keep a 7 to 4 adapter on hand.
