All good. It's not like anyone around here has the answer.
I am not sure why the wattage matters. As said in the other thread, it is probably less than 15W RMS.
The system is "loud" enough for me, but the dynamic range isn't great. At the same time, the OEM power isn't likely to blow any aftermarket speakers with wattage alone. The system as a whole will surely sound better with more sensitive, higher-quality speakers.
If interior panels are pulled off to replace any speakers, the cavities behind them will benefit from sound-absorptive mat. These cheapish trucks have very little insulation, and that noise floor just takes away from what you are trying to listen to.
The "killer app" combo is new speakers (at least in front) and a DSP. Something like the Kicker 200.4 amp will be a little more hassle to install, but it will provide a built-in DSP to help correct the peculiarities of the head unit signal as well as the cab acoustics, and also put some spark back in the dynamic range. It is on my shopping list.
Not complaining much but I was disappointed with the B&O system in my Lariat Lux. The Harmon Kardon system in my Forester Touring had much better sound quality but the screen was lacking.
I don't need anything super loud or thumpy, just a lot cleaner than what's there. The level of distortion at 1/2 volume is terrible. And after seeing the microscopic magnets on the door speakers, I knew why. Why do they even bother to install such low-grade crap. That's just embarrassing. Jeez, take some pride in your product.
Anyways - 4 Kenwood speakers and a tiny Kenwood under-the-seat powered sub is on the way. Debating on the dash mounted tweeters yet, and praying the head unit has enough grunt (it doesn't but I'm still praying). This'll be interesting!
