I’m all for factory work in Mexico.
Get those people working and making money that they can build up their own local economy and use the factories as a cover for base operations to take out the Cartels and kill all the drug dealers.

It's a new tax. If I pre-order tickets for an event in March, and right now my city sales tax is 6% and a new law is passed next week that raises our sales tax to 6.5%, I am paying 6.5% in sales tax if I actually pay for my tickets in April. That company is legally required to charge me the taxes that are due by law.

The dealer wouldn't change the price of the vehicle. And every pre-purchase agreement I've seen estimates what your taxes will be, but those line items aren't final till your purchase itself is made. They have no control over what tax changes may occur between you wanting the vehicle and you buying the vehicle, but they do have to ensure you pay the legal taxes/tariffs on your order when you pay.

So, on your vehicle purchase price, if there is a line item for the new 25% tariff on imported goods, and your vehicle price stays the same, you are still getting the vehicle for the quoted price.
That was my dealer's excuse...the increase in price was for additional taxes added yesterday. Sales price of vehicle was the same...and my quote was Price+applicable Taxes.(Tariff). Suggestion was made by my sales rep to wait a few days to see if Tariffs are cancelled... Did not want to play that game, will look else where. Toyota's new Hybrid Tocoma does interest me.

Had a Hybrid AWD XLT on order at a firm price quote and deposit. Dealer emailed me this AM and price will go up $3,800 so I asked for my deposit back...I was not desperate for the XLT. If I do not get my deposit back quickly, I will be PO'ed.
Which dealer? I have an order pending but haven't received any notice of price changes to my documented order.

My "Tariffs? Why is this the first time we are hearing about this?" canned reply is nearly fully creatable through keyboard app word suggestion, so I'm ready.
Speaking of canned replies, it's threads like these where I actually miss the whole
"Hi there! Would you mind sending us a direct message with your VIN and local dealer, and we can look into those tariff issues for you."

You do not need to read any of them. So stop complaining and move on.
You apparently didn't read the substantive information in my post, but thank you for contributing nothing to the topic other than an insult.

So, China says it will fight.
I am in the middle of The Twin Cities, Chicago and Des Moines population centers, and South Dakota missile sights. Shiney sky blossoms in all directions.
they are in a constant state of cyber warfare with us already.

since 1950 china has consistently been very aggressive with their communications so that's nothing new for them to say they'll go to war.

It isn't a "tax". The manufacturer, not the dealer, not the state, not the government decides on price increases due to tarrifs or any other reason. How the tarrif will affect the price the manufacturer decides to charge you, is up to them. Some manufactuers will not change prices immediately, some may add a percentage of the tarrif to the price. Doubtful if anyone adds 25% to their prices. Nobody would buy the vehicles! And no car is 100% built in Mexico, China, or Canada, or anyplace else. So the change in price will also depend on where components are manufactured.

They are rat-bastards, the tarrif hasn't happened yet, and it is not a tax! Stay away from that dealer, they are liars.

I could really care less about the tariff added to the Maverick. Was easy to cancel, not the dealers fault. It is the BS going on with threats of tariffs. I ship hundreds of (large) computers to Mexico ($80k-$100k)...all orders have been put on hold for 3 months simply because of our governments threatening tariffs...and we cannot afford to ship product and them being stopped at the port, customer refusing to pay tariffs and take months to be released, or never returned....all because of our own government's threats of tariffs. My Ford dealer told me yesterday their sales have tanked to the bottom for months due to threats of tariffs. My poor sales rep (straight commission) has spent hours placing orders, and I'm not the only one, canceling orders...he's been working for nothing...due to this limbo.

A tariff is legally considered a tax on the shipping/exporting company which is in turn has to EVENTUALLY be charged to the consumer. I assume you Ford is working on a 5-8% NET profit margin...if they or the dealer had to eat a tariff, they would lose money on a every truck sale...and right now BOTH THE DEALER AND FORD are in limbo. I'm confident Ford makes between $1,800 and max $2,600 net profit per base Maverick. Ford's can't pay/absorb a $2,000-$3000 tariff and make a profit. The Maverick was greatly benefited by software, other parts and wiring harness technology from the F150 line of technology.

Our government's games with "THERE IS A tariffs", then "MAYBE not", then "yes there is", "now there is a PAUSE!", and then "but Tariffs will come back", are deadly for small businesses and consumers.

Yup, it makes even short-term planning impossible.

From the US Dept of Commerce official website of the International Trade Administration.

" A tariff or duty (the words are used interchangeably) is a tax levied by governments on the value including freight and insurance of imported products. "

Import Tariffs & Fees Overview and Resources

I'm sorry Bill, but while you say it's not a tax, the Government of the United States of America declares that it is a tax. I do get why politicians though when enacting them hate using that word in public.
