Driving home last night I had a message flash up on my screen for the first time saying "Pre Collision Assist" (or something to that effect) ln bright red. it flashed several times and went away. I have a 2022 XLT with Co-Pilot 360 but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have that capability. Why would I get the message all of a sudden

Pre-collision assist is standard on all trims. If the forward looking camera system thinks your closing rate with an object in front might result in a collision (depending on sensitivity set in the instrument cluster settings) it will display the alert. The system primes the brakes for emergency stopping input if necessary and can activate them automatically.

In my experience for me it tends to trigger most if the preceding vehicle is turning off to the right.

I've received that message numerous times while driving during the daytime. I think the cameras/sensors are picking up on phantom shadows, because each and every time it's happened I'm either driving under a walkway bridge, or I'm approaching a bridge and the sensors read the road divider as another car.

All Mavericks have the camera and the pre-collision warning then assist.
There was someone awhile back who said theirs was acting up- they had to get the computer fixed/ replaced after camera replacement didn't fix it.

I've had the warning flash a couple times- both times I was headed straight at something knowing I was going to turn- 30mph and 60mph. The computer doesn't know that though. Good thing it didn't brake for the 60mph one!!

just wait until it jams on the brakes for no reason. My Tremor hasn't but the wife's Escort has once, wtf moment.

My 2017 F-150 has the "smart" early warning/collision avoidance feature. I initially had it turned on (along with that automatic cruise control that keeps you at a distance from the car in front of you). Anyway, while descending a winding highway in eastern Tennessee, a sharp turn to the left made the truck think that the car in the right lane was actually in front of me and it slammed on the brakes. A bit scary, and it ticked me off.

I turned off that feature along with the adaptive cruise control. What might work well on roads that are straight is not ideal for winding roads. Nor rush hour where you don't want to leave gaps for other idiots to cut in front of you.

If it were up to me, all these automatic nanny features would be removed.

Get it often on my Escape. Most of tge time it is valid... Not weird, I appreciate the warning. This showed up on my Escape a couple days ago... This is more than weird. How the hell do you get a mirror image on your screen?

If I am not mistaken, you can adjust the sensitivity of the pre-collision detection under one of the dash screens.

I had a phantom collision warning once when I was on my way to work early one morning. It was very humid and there was a thick layer of condensation on the windshield. I had just turned onto the main road from my neighborhood. Kinda jarring when you're half awake and there is no one around lol.

A quick swipe of the wipers resolved the issue.

Give it a quick windshield wipe

The pre-collision assist is very sensitive. There could be a car braking three car lengths ahead of me ready to make a turn and if I don't brake early enough according to the car, it goes off. It can be annoying or just catch you off guard. But don't worry about it. It's totally normal.
