Yesterday my Ford Pass App failed to open the vehicle. This problem had nothing to do with cell signals and probably due to the vehicle entering sleep mode.
"Passing" this along for anyone that might be tempted to **cough** leave keys in the truck.

Several hours later I was able to get in by unsuccessfully entering combination at the key pad. A couple of minutes following that the app did work.

If the vehicle truly went into sleep mode should the app have been able to tell me that? Details and self-inflicted aspects follow...

Background is that I went to the gym for and followed a bad habit of leaving my keys in the truck and relying on my cell phone and the app. When I came out the app would not work and I did not have the combination to try the key pad. I checked online and seemed that heat might trigger deep sleep mode which would keep the app from working to lock/unlock/start. It was a balmy 95 degrees in Northern Wisconsin so perhaps so. Troubleshooting suggested using key fob to get vehicle out of deep sleep mode. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and re-set my phone a couple of times with no success. I also tried scheduling a remote start with the app and not surprised that was not successful. With key fob locked in vehicle, second fob misplaced and no combination committed to memory or written down--comedy of errors--I decided to come back when the temp cooled down to 90. At that point the app still didn't work so I checked to see if randomly hitting numbers on the key pad might trigger some change. I did not see any lights lit or noises using the key pad but when I tried the app a couple of minutes later it worked. During this self-inflicted ordeal the app never registered any errors with the vehicle but did seem to know or remember it was there.

I have not heard of heat causing Deep Sleep. At least it never has in my 2022 Hybrid.

Definitely get that code memorized, I use mine several times a week.

The app should tell you when your truck is in sleep mode. It told me almost every day for 2 hrs, lol.

Dang; first sucks that you have had so many sleep mode issues. Second I guess that makes my app failure more mysterious. I learned my lesson to have a backup plan :)

I am reluctant to AI SEARCH for "What are passwords used by (fill in the name of your choice)". Or "who uses password for their password".

I finally went to the dealership and got a new battery for free. I haven't had the problem since, and that was 4 months ago. Other than that, I really love these trucks. Good luck with your problem. I hope it gets resolved soon.

You could save your code in your phone as well. I use an app called Color Note.

You need more than just the FordPass app. You also need to go into your phone's notification settings and tell it to allow notifications on top of anything else going on on the phone at the moment. Unless you specifically make those notification settings changes you'll not know how many other times your vehicle has gone into deep sleep that you are unaware of. It is guaranteed that this is not the first time. Your battery is almost assured to be sulfated and on its last leg due to chronic undercharging. If you haven't had it tested, suggest a trip to the dealer. You'll likely go away with a new battery like the rest of us have multiple times since our vehicle was new, since Ford seems incapable of fixing the charging circuit.

I had a friend suggest you name your truck and put code in as phone number in your phone - NOTE: the learned code is 'forgotten' if the battery completely dies or is disconnected, so try to learn or remember the factory code - this will ALWAYS work and you can keep using to add your favorite code if disconnect the battery...Just my $.02

Deep sleep mode - and yes after voltage or SOC hits a certain point the last thing the truck should do is send off notice to Ford's servers so your app is informed.
ETA - ditto to check your phone setting for the Fordpass app notices - all it takes is looking at one notice and clicking ignore to change the setting. Should still find old ones in app under messages.

Also, everyone's truck enters sleep mode after max 75 min when all the clicking stops (or should if no problems). But Deep sleep turns off the modem finally.

You might have noticed the lights turning off sooner and sooner if the right time of year to notice, but harder to when it's light out. That's Battery Saving functions.

But since heat is bad for a battery - that could have pushed it over the edge slightly faster to read as a lower voltage, and indeed cooler could raise it just a tad to be allowed, but I'm betting once it reaches cut-off, no turning modem back on. So no amount of work on the app side matters anyway since app only talks to Ford servers - those probably won't even attempt to reach the truck if they got the notice going off-line from the truck.
Many posts have shared how the app keeps that notice, even after charging battery up - until they actually start and drive the truck, then the notice goes out the communication is back.

Curious if you are in habit of turning truck off with AC running?

Thank you very much. This is helpful. Next oil change I will have the dealer check. I had not realized how prevalent deep sleep was since I have not had an issue until possibly now. Definitely a bone head move on my part to put myself in the situation where I had to rely on the app.
