I’d like to know if all automobile manufacturers occasionally produce vehicles that have chronic problems that neither the manufacturer nor service people never seem to be able to correct. Not looking for names. Just a general consensus.

If this post is not suitable for the forum by all means delete it.

Well I know way back in the early 60’s my parents had a Chrysler they bought new that had issues dealers nor auto shops could get to stay fixed. I took care of it by totaling it at the age of 16.
Let me guess, you have some hybrid gremlins

Focus/Fiesta with a DPS6 or a 6.0 super duty are 2 good examples from Ford off the top of my head.

There are lemons for sure that even the makers admit to from time to time.

1980 GM Diesels come to mind.

We had a 350 ci 5.7l V8.
Never ran well.
Leaked a quart of oil a month onto the driveway.

I find in the age of the internet that the grumblers get much more air time than their counterparts. Every manufacturer has had bad cars at some point. Some more than others. Don't forget the old saying Found On Road Dead and my favorite Fix Or Repair Daily. Haven't heard them in the last 10-15 years. And now I am the proud owner of a Ford Maverick.

Most issues I have seen with the Maverick has been with Hybrids.

They also have had more recalls.

My Maverick hasn't had any issues, nor any recalls.

Not looking for problems with specific makers. Just asking how common the most difficult problems are amongst all makers. Or do some makers not ever have any "big" problems.

Again, if it can be managed not looking for names.

I still hear people say these all the time. Now that I own a Ford for the first time, I can kind of get where they come from. :ROFLMAO: Another was, "Frends don't let friends buy Fords".

All manufacturers have issues with certain models. Toyota had issues with frames rusting out.

Waterpumps on Ford's 3.5's both durratech and ecoboost between 100 and 120k.

Chrysler had transmission issues for years.

GM has transmission issues.

Hyundai/ Kia getting stolen, and engine issues.

Nissan has CVT issues.

Every manufacturer has issues. Some issue recalls, some issue TSBs, while others do nothing.

All auto makers have issues with infotainment systems, year after year they are listed as being one of the most problematic parts of new vehicles in owner surveys.

The "Internet" is like Newspapers.
The Story is popped on the front page.
But a later retraction or correction is found on page 9..
and most people don't read past page 2 and than head for the comics...

I have been a "Ford Guy" since birth. Dad, his dad, his dad's dad and Uncles, etc... had fords.
I remember the F-O-R-D jabs, but memory and personal experience has proven otherwise.
Yes, there have been problems, but with a little amount of investigation and patience the problems had been an easy fix.

My concern is that "EVERYTHING" is made to be thrown away, nowadays. And unfortunately, so is My Maverick...

The time I had to take off work to deal with my warranty issues was in the calendar as 'Fix Or Repair Daily'.

Also, definitely heard it from at least one Fiesta or Focus owner....

OTOH I've up till the Maverick been lucky with other brands; My SC2, Ion[0] and Subaru[1] were final or next to final year of the generation, which made them refined enough to avoid the worst problems.

No, I'm not soured on it. A brand new vehicle, even on an existing platform, is going to have bumps as they figure out how to reliably produce it. OTOH Ford needs to be better about having spare parts available, it took 4 months for my dealer to get the correct part for a warranty issue.

[0] - OTOH I still have a spare set of Ion control arm bushings somewhere because I learned to always keep a set handy. Thankfully they were cheap.

[1] - The Subaru finally got some electrical issues after 11 years and an, in retrospect, subpar insurance repair job. Outside of flat tires and a clutch it has been nothing but scheduled maintenance. OTOH, If I had gotten a regular Impreza of that year this post would instead be complaining about oil consumption. IOW, everyone makes mistakes lol.

I have to agree with you.
Since the unfortunate events of the last few years, almost all automobile manufacturers are making junk. The supply chain issues aren’t helping either.

Aston Martin, Ferrari and the premium brands probably haven’t skimped yet but everybody else has.

I don’t expect to get 100k trouble free, or otherwise, miles out of my Maverick, or any other make now. I believe the days of super reliable, 200k+ cars is over.

Frankly, when Ford first announced the Maverick hybrid being the lowest price hybrid on the market at the astounding price of $21,490, the first thought that came into my mind was “How cheaply made is that thing?”

I still wanted one simply because a small truck hadn’t been available for decades.

To me it’s all relative. I could spend 2-3 times as much and still end up with a vehicle that isn’t designed to last much more than 100k.

The days of reliable, bulletproof Toyota Tacos, Subaru Outback’s, and any other legendary vehicles are over.
