Wait was it a New Yorker? Are you my brother?😂
Yep it was a New Yorker. Big as a barge. 383 V8. Went air born on one of those roller coaster type roads. Came down front end first, tire blew, into a ditch and lastly into a big tree. Me and my buddies lucky we didn’t even get a scratch. Ha, But no I’m not your brother

My brother had a Vega. The tail lights worked. The headlights were fine.
Everything in between was raw, unadulterated JUNK.
It didn't help that they shipped them, on their noses.... o_O

There is also the factor of any newly designed vehicle. Maverick especially if you have one a year or two old is in it's infancy. New models across all manufacturers tend to have a higher rate of problems and recalls as the quirks are worked out for that model. The more unique the vehicle, the more bugs.

Interesting subject: I've had the fun of touring the Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, BMW factories....assembling 9,000 to 15,000 parts is complicated.

Parts suppliers are pretty consistently the root of the problem. BMW actually published a list of their suppliers a few years ago and 80+% of the components of all their Beemers were manufactured by outside parts companies...The main item car makers make is the structure, doors, roof and body shells, and of course the engine, and MOST of the rest of the car components are from their parts suppliers.

Car Manufacturers plan (for example) to build 20,000 Mavericks and put out requests for bid on contracts for 20,000 windshields, 80,000 tires, 6 brackets for the bed, etc to suppliers - paint, tires, door knobs, windshield wiper motors, etc....the combined list of parts make up a parts list of each series of 20,000 cars Maverick makes... The next model year may have different parts suppliers (based on who wins the bid) and problems associated for supplier to warranty. Several of the Maverick screw ups were electrical component contact points that were slightly different from one year to the next. My 2022 XLT display cable had a corrosion problem on the connector plug and quite working so Ford replaced the cable but with a 2023 model year cable that had corrected a known problem on some 2022 model year Mavericks. Some parts that fail most of the time or that are hazardous become "recalls".

Some car makers have their act together and have tight quality control of parts and assembly...but with car makers like Mercedes and Porsche you pay a premium for their quality control and efficiency. The Maverick is a pretty low budget vehicle and prone to screw-ups and recalls.

I still hear people say these all the time. Now that I own a Ford for the first time, I can kind of get where they come from. :ROFLMAO: Another was, "Frends don't let friends buy Fords".
My favorite was “F..ed Over Rebuilt Dodge” because the only thing worse than a ford… was a dodge. And another family favorite was “First Out on Race Day.” But yes, that stigma has changed and I never thought I would, but here I am, waiting to buy a Ford.
Fun fact: did you know that Cummins had to decrease the power of diesels they put in the Rams because the torque would crack the frames? They did it by decreasing the fuel output at the injectors.

Looking at Hybrid Maverick
Engine
2.5L Hybrid
All manufacturers have issues with certain models. Toyota had issues with frames rusting out.

Waterpumps on Ford's 3.5's both durratech and ecoboost between 100 and 120k.

Chrysler had transmission issues for years.

GM has transmission issues.

Hyundai/ Kia getting stolen, and engine issues.

Nissan has CVT issues.

Every manufacturer has issues. Some issue recalls, some issue TSBs, while others do nothing.
What about Mitsubishi? FWIW Ive put over 100,000 on 3 of them and had no issues. 100% made in Japan. Still have my 16yr old Outlander. However, recently looking at complaints on the current models I feel like every manufacturer is having issues.

Its turned into more of a decision about what issues you can tolerate and hope the thing doesn't fall apart before 100K.

I had an ‘87 Mitsubishi mighty max. Those were great pickups, gutless as all hell, but they were great. My first one got stolen at college so I bought another one. Both had over 200,000 on them when I got rid of them. One was the 2.6liter with the timing chain and the other was a 2.2 liter with a timing belt. Timing belt went out twice while I had it, both times I changed it myself, with a little help finding TDC. Before that, when I turned 16, I had a 1980 Celica with a 22R motor. Now those things were bulletproof. The celica had 187,000 on it when I got it, I wrecked it when it had 240,000 on it, and then my dad pulled the motor and put it in a 1961 ford falcon. We called it the celicon. Put another 120,000 on it before he sold it. That motor was STILL running strong after almost 400,000 miles.
That and my 2006 Pontiac vibe made me a Toyota person. (Vibe was a joint deal between GM and Toyota, kind of like Geo was. The vibe had a Corolla drivetrain. Got 330,000 miles and the engine was great, lost the transmission. Only problem I ever had was the engine cover rubbed through the wires for the coolant temp sensor never)
I have to say though, once OBD2 came out, car reliability has gone way up. I think it was after that was around for a decade when I realized that Fords aren’t as bad as I used to think they were. In the early 2000s I did work for a mechanic when going to college though, and if you walked out in the shop, it was twice the fords on the lifts than all other makes and models combined. I do prefer to buy a vehicle that I can work on myself though, another reason I am glad to be getting the Ecoboost and not the Hybrid.

No problems at all but of course you hear things.
The way I look at it, bad things happen, but that doesn't mean they're common. We hear of public shootings in America every day, but most of us are gonna get through life without being shot. Just like most of us maverick owners are gonna get through our ownership experience without major issues.

Interesting that you mention the 3.5 duratec because it's actually an extremely reliable motor, and the water pump issue is pretty rare, especially for later models like our 2017 explorer.

I would say Ford's biggest mistake in terms of reliability the last decade or so was easily the DCT in the fiesta/focus.
