Under hood fire risks:

As a senior and female, I hate that I have a 2022 vehicle that is not safe to drive!! I am awaiting 4 recalls right now but the one concerning is the under hood fire. I will be moving from So Cali to Northern Cali in mid-septOctober this fall. There are freeeways I will be traveling with truck loaded and if I realize something is very wrong it can take some time to move across 4-6 lanes of traffic to get an opportunity to exit...and if there is fire involvement this could likely cause an accident! I rthink it very negligent on Fords part to not have parts to fix this until October/November. It could be a lawsuit several times over for them. Im just worried about truck breaking down or someone getting hurt.
Do you think I should ply it safe and rent a pick up instead? I will need to make three 870 mi. round-trip to complete the move.....mainly due to such a small truck bed. I definitely wouldnt want to tow a additional trailer and make it even more difficult to maneuver on freewa lanes.

Please make sure you read the entire message about the recall:

" Ford advises customers to safely park and shut off the engine as quickly as possible if they hear unexpected engine noises, lose power, or see or smell smoke. "

If you feel it is truly unsafe to drive, then park it or tow it.

If you are just concerned about breaking down on the freeway, stay in the far right lane.
This gives you quickest exit to side of road while avoiding most traffic.

There have only been 10 to 15 report incidents across Maverick, Escape and Lincoln out of 100,000+ vehicles. Mercedes last year recalled 600,000 cars for engine fires. They didn't have all of them catch fire, just a few. Same for Kia, Chevy Bolts 51,000, Toyota and Lexus 43,000 with Toyota having 1.6 million RAV4s investigated for fires, same for many manufacturers.

All vehicles have a few problems but only a very small number actually have the problems.

I would not worry about it. Take the trip. I would contact the dealer and ask for about a courtesy check

An engine fire can happen to any vehicle. The chance of happening is extremely low. Like all cars, keep in mind: "if you hear unexpected engine noises, lose power, or see or smell smoke" stop on the side of the road as soon as you can. What's makes it more "dangerous" with the hybrid, the battery will still be operational and driver might not notice right away, which to me is hard to believe.

Where's Ford's responsibility in these four recalls? Especially the one that can cause fire under the hood. The chances are they are with some of the comments here and agree, that the chance of that happening is low. Forgetting that for the person to whom this happens is 100%.

I for one who appreciate the OP for asking this question. In my view, if she does not feel comfortable making the long drive with her Maverick, then she shouldn't do it. There's no reason for her to worry all the way to her destination.

She reports that her vehicle is "unsafe to drive", her opinion not mine. She shouldn't drive it putting herself and others at risk.

You sir presume to know better about a piece of equipment that you have never seen. Is it leaking oil? Is it making noise? Is it actually smoking? Is there something going on more than a recall?

She describes herself as "senior" as such, unless she just got a drivers license in the past couple of years, she probably has decades of experience, and with that experience, she maintains that her vehicle is "unsafe to drive".

I'm taking her at her word. She is obviously worried that it may catch fire.

No person that feels that their vehicle is "unsafe to drive" should operate said vehicle.

I own a hybrid Maverick and my wife owns a hybrid Escape. We both received the recall notices by mail last week. I called Customer Relations yesterday and explained my dissatisfaction. They gave me a case number and told me to expect a call back within 3-5 business days. Do I expect Ford to do anything? No.

Will I buy another Ford vehicle? No. These are the first two Ford vehicles my wife and I have owned since the mid '90's. We're going back to buying Toyotas after this experience. We've owned a variety of Toyotas, including a Prius for over 6 1/2 years. Never had one problem with it. The new Tacoma with a hybrid engine is coming out at the end of the year. I'm seriously considering it!!
