So, after driving the Maverick for almost a year and a half, the one thing that continues to irk me is that it seems to have the turning radius of a whale. Any particular reason it is so big? I often have trouble making u-turns on the first go.

I have had many cars over the years (including a couple of land yachts from the '70's) and I have never had a vehicle that turns so wide.

Is it due to the combination of FWD and the extra hybrid gear under the hood?
What? My Maverick has a very tight turning radius.
Something must be wrong with yours. You should take it in and have it looked at while it’s still under warranty. Did you check for recalls? Maybe its a feature that can be improved with Forscan software.

Mine turned as tight or tighter than the '23 Honda Civic Si it replaced.

I think Ford should have fun with it: "The new Ford Maverick is SPORTY. It has the turning radius of a 67 Thunderbird!"

The turning radius on a 2007 Colorado is 39.4' curb-to-curb, or about 7" less than the Mav. That's not even a noticeable difference. Wall-to-wall the Colorado would have a larger turning circle, due to the larger overhangs.

haha, true. a hs buddy drove a mid-70s pontiac parisienne for a while, and I just looked it up. 123" wheelbase.
yeah, noone who owned a 70s GM full-size is going to have any sympathy for the maverick turning radius.

Pulling a 5 point turn, rather than 7, on a residential street was an achievement in my '72 Impala. Oddly, my mother's '72 Chevy van had both a tighter turning radius and cornered better.

It'd take a 4-point turn anywhere.
err, wouldn't that (or any other even number) mean you leave the operation driving backwards?

🤔

I have never had a reason to even give this a second thought.

It’s about the same as my Audi Quattro (Suzy). If you’re using it for a getaway car make sure it’s pointing in the right direction before they go in.

Compared to the Explorer and Expedition, the Maverick turns on a dime.

Make sure you have a getaway driver, and watch our for funny angles ...

You think the Maverick is bad, try the Transit (not Connect)! My previous Sprinter could U-turn in my street, the Transit (not Connect) requires a 3-point turn. The Maverick can U-turn, but only if there's no cars parked on both sides.

I drove a Peterbilt with a 260" wheelbase and pulled a 53' trailer... the Maverick spins like a top compared to that.

I couls have adjusted the steering stops on the spindles but that kills tire wear... the tighter the turning radius the more rubber is scrubbed from the tires.

Next we will hear complaints about the glove box capacity or the lack of legroom when the front seats are slid back.

Everything is a compromise.

I don't think it's too bad, but I also upgraded from a 2017 Ram quad cab 4x4 😊
