I found the maverick via Tune + who I follow for his work with other ecoboost platforms. https://www.facebook.com/500whp check his facebook out if you want to follow his progress so far. I probably won't modify mine until its out of warranty but this guy knows what he is talking about if you are looking to get the most power out of these things.

Shop's post from today:

unePlus, Inc Maverick R&D
- Dyno + Tune
- Roof wrap
- Coilover update

Got the truck on the dyno yesterday for some preliminary testing. Got our baseline in on 100% stock tune, only change to the truck that would effect the numbers are the wheels. However the wheels were on the truck for both baseline and initial tuning so the delta is what is most important. I would guess it would have a slightly lower number if I put the stock wheels back on it as they are taller and a little more heavy.

Dyno'ing this truck proved to be a little difficult as there isn't a manual mode or paddle shifters so keeping it in the gear I want for pulls isn't possible in factory form. Additionally this isn't an AWD all the time setup, this truck is AWD when it "needs to be". It is mostly FWD and the RDU (Rear Differential Unit) kicks on as needed based on torque input, steering wheel angle, and most importantly wheel speed ratio from front the rear. If the front wheels are spinning faster than the rear then it detects this as loss of traction and will engage the rear diff as needed.

We work on a linked dynojet dyno so the rollers spin at the same speed, so theoretically the truck should be fine because all 4 wheels are spinning at the same speed. However on the Focus RS we have to put it in Dyno Mode which is FWD only in order to dyno tune them because even with the wheels spinning at the same speed they still freak out. This was the same case for the Maverick, however on the RS it will turn the RDU off but on the Maverick it stayed on so we were able to do the entire session in AWD mode without any issues besides the dash lit up like a Christmas tree.

For the gear solution I was able to dig and find the coding for diagnostics testing that Ford uses themselves. From there I found a switch for locking the truck in a specific gear and it won't allow it to upshift or downshift. I stuck the truck in 4th (5th would work just as well and show slightly higher numbers) to keep the overall speed down for less wear and tear on the dyno brakes and the truck itself.

By the way, when the calibration is told to run a single gear that is all it will do. So when we went to pull it off the dyno it didn't have reverse and I was a little confused. We pushed it out of the shop and tried to see if driving it around fixed it. Then I realized, damnit I forgot to turn off the test lock haha. It only had 4th! lol.

I have attached a picture of the baseline numbers along with my first tune changes to show what we picked up on a 100% stock truck.

Stock - 201whp/257wtq
v100 Tune - 227whp/289wtq
Gain - 26whp/32wtq

Not to shabby of a gain, but there is definitely more to be had. I ran into some setbacks and need to work with HPTuners to get some changes added to the software and need access to a few different tables. Once we get that sorted out I believe we will be able to pick up another 10-15whp on 93oct.

Unfortunately the turbo is pretty much maxed out right off the get go. On the stock tune the truck in the top end has the turbo at 100% from 5000-7000rpm. So any BIG gains this truck will ever see in it's life is not going to be from airflow it is going to be from timing and running a higher octane fuel or ethanol. This is pretty much the case with all 2.0L Ecoboost engines. Focus ST for example soon as it hits peak torque at 3000rpm, the tune is commanding 100% from the turbo and it just keeps dropping off all the way to redline.

I believe with an E30 tune or E85 (once we do fuel system upgrades) this truck will see a max of 260-275whp on the stock turbo even with upgrades. This truck will likely see ZERO gain from a downpipe, and the intake will likely make no difference with a tune. We may see a max of 5-10whp gain with an aftermarket intercooler in the future once we develop one.
So if anyone has a dream of a 300whp+ Maverick you'll have to wait until we get a turbo upgrade option on the market along with some bolt ons. I'm not going to stop until this thing kills the transmission which I'm going to guess is going to be around 350-400whp but lets hope not!

I'll be back on the dyno in about a week or so to wrap up our 93oct tune offering for 100% stock truck, then we will start on our E30 tune. I expect to have pump/injectors made and ready to go for this before the end of the year then we will see what it does on E85 but I'm going to guess no more than what we are going to be able to make on E30. However I'm planning for the future with turbo upgrades and built engines

Now onto the roof wrap. The other day when I posted up pictures of our truck getting some tint someone wanted to see what the roof would look like wrapped black. Well, luckily the shop next to ours is a wrap shop and I just walked over and said "hey, do the roof on the Maverick in gloss black. K THANKS!

An hour later it was done, and it definitely is something I would recommend. I have the front windshield tinted and having the roof wrapped makes it look like a continuation of the windshield and it just flows better in my opinion. Again, that is just me, you might not like it but I do so I do what I want!

Lastly, first parts for our Coilover production came in yesterday. A little too late to get them on the truck yesterday after being on the dyno. Then today I'm working from home to spend some time with my son so we will likely get the truck up on the lift tomorrow and start test fitting the first batch of parts we got. I'm crossing my fingers that we can get something road-ready tomorrow because I can't stand driving this mini "monster truck" with the temporary wheels on it. I want to get this thing on the ground and toss the wheels I have set aside for it. I think it's going to look sick!

P.S. - Brake upgrades might be coming sooner than expected. Not many people are going to look at this truck and think it needs brakes but with us trying to expand the horizon on this platform and get more "performance enthusiasts" interested in it, I think brakes are going to be a common upgrade. We will see!

Thanks for the info. Disappointing to hear about the Turbo being pretty much maxed from stock. Iā€™m curious how that power feels on the road though once heā€™s done with the final product. Curious on what 0-60 and 50-80 times may be too. Will be following

What do you calculate DT loss at or around?

12% isnt nothing, I'd probably be happy with that depending on pricing and what kinda hit i got on fuel economy.

And in other news Forscan now has all the different modes available in all trims for the Bronco- Good news for those that lost "Sport" with the FX4 package-

really? they are able to swap out modes using forscan?
that means ford just skimped out on the user interface... what a weird place to skimp.

Yeah itā€™s dandy as his improvements list it may seem,ā€¦the same thing or more can be achieved with driving high octane as opposed to 87ā€¦

Coming from the ST community, and with a 330whp fiesta st (1.6 ecoboost), I trust Adam with this platform. What he's saying is exactly in line with how power bottlenecks have been addressed, and the maverick is no different. The only people that will tell you that you need an intake or exhaust to "open" up this drivetrain has something for sale.

What was common in both Focus and FIesta ST's, was a poor stock FMIC. The FMIC would heatsoak throughout a pull and lead to pulled timing at the topend. If you want "colder air" don't get an intake, get a bigger intercooler. Having an intercooler that doesn't heatsoak will give you more "topend" power just by allowing you to do a full pull without heatsoaking.

For those curious, here's Adams 400whp fiesta st

Not saying you're wrong, but the wheels pictured in this thread look exactly like the Advanti Hybris..

You might be right, he said on his facebook page " As you can see in the first picture below we threw on some wheels off of one of our Focus RSā€™s" but maybe they had Advanti Hybris on their Focus RS šŸ˜‰

So the CEO of Tune+ (the OP of quoted info. above) is saying that the stock turbo is nearly maxed out in stock fashion; thus an intake, and exhaust will hardly improve performance, and he expects maybe a 5-10 WHP gain from an intercooler... Yet we have folks lining up to give their hard-earned money to Buscher for exactly that: intakes, exhausts and soon intercoolers.. All of which Buscher claims some ridiculous gains to be had and Ford left a lot on the table.. blah, blah, blah.

It's interesting to see two "well-versed" business owners stepping into our arena saying very different things..

Personally I like this gentlemen's honesty, despite it contradicting the gospel Buscher and his choir preach on here.
Iā€™m genuinely curious why you believe one persons dyno results and question anotherā€™s? They both provided hp & tq curves but Iā€™ve only seen the afrā€™s from 1 of them.

I'm not sure these tuners said ā€œvery different thingsā€ as you state. Theyā€™re taking 2 different approaches to their maverick. One started w bolt ons, the other with ecu tuning.
Iā€™m not familiar w Adam (?), but Iā€™ve known of David since the 90s and have seen what he does first hand and has decades of history making 4 cylinder cars go very fast. A close friend that has an amazing car collection (vipers, built mustangs, modded f40, multiple gt40s) daily drives his Buschur built Evo. That speaks volumes to me.

I will reserve my judgement till I see both tuners building parts AND tuning the ecu before I claim either as ā€œgospelā€.
