Out during my lunch yesterday. Parked the truck for about an hour. Started it up and the console (dials/odometer etc; not the touchscreen) is black. Truck worked fine, but no console. Only the little green "Ready" is lit up... nothing else. Dropped it off at dealer and still waiting to see what the problem is/how long I'm going to be without a vehicle.

Found another thread from a few weeks ago; same issue @ almost same mileage, also '23 hybrid. Another user posted that updating the instrument cluster module fixed it... So I texted my dealer to see if they can get this resolved quickly.

edit: They just responded and said they already did the fix and are just driving it a bit to confirm it's working and I can pick it up later today.

Screen reboot? It's not the touchscreen that went out. It was the console above the steering wheel.

IIRC you can pull a fuse to reboot that console above the steering wheel. However if there is a real fix with new programming, that would be preferable and worth a trip to the dealer.

I am wondering if there is truly an update, or if the dealer just pulls and reinserts the fuse. The report we got in that other thread you linked about an "update" was not really conclusive in that regard, IMO

If you can, please share the service details when they give it back to you - any procedures or updates they reference with a Ford number would be helpful for the next guy to get their dealer on the right track.

Thanks,

Service details specify that the service was "reconfigure ipc".

Interesting - still sorta vague. Oh well hopefully it will be the last visit you have to make for it. Thanks for the update! (y)

As a retired software engineer, I can attest that most consumer and even auto-grade systems are just too frigging complex not to randomly fail here and there. You get to these weird edge cases where A, B, C, D, E and F all happen in a certain order and timeframe and BOOM!. And you can never replicate it. It's the cost of having these wonderfully capable but also dreadfully complex systems of interconnected components from a variety of Tier 2, 3, and 4 suppliers.

Oh, and software engineers specialize in unhelpful diagnostic messages. It's our one joy in life - confusing the end user.

An honest engineer, I like that, lol.

I'm an aircraft inspector, and I hate engineers. What works great for them in a temperature controlled room on their computer screen, doesn't work well at all in either 100 degree or -10 degree flight line. In their minds when they "engineered" it, only takes 2 minutes to remove, inspect and reinstall. But in reality, it's put in the most difficult spot to reach, behind some bulkhead on the aircraft, with only a 1/2 inch of space to work in. So it takes hours of work to remove 10 other things to get to it.

I feel all engineers should be mechanics, in the worst possible weather conditions, before they are allowed to engineer anything.

Hi there! Can you please send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of the Ford dealer you are working with? I would like to look into your console concerns on my end.

ABSOLUTELY. I have a friend, an older guy, 90, who worked on cars, then airplanes, then ended up being an engineer..he has a lot of stories about this issue...

I talked with him a few hours ago. He started out rebuilding engines in high school making cash, it was rough back then. He had drafting classes in High School, and then got a job in Alaska as a Helicopter mechanic. After the war he went back to school (college) got a degree in Engineering..ended up many many years later working for Boeing. He recalled having to baby sit a few new engineers (baby sit..wrong words) but said they had to go back and see how messed up their ideas were in a hands on repair. Interesting guy. ( did I go off topic much?)
