Weird since there's no reason why these apps should be running/doing anything in the background.
Whether someone uses the Ford app or not, Mavericks have a cellphone built into them. It's talking with Ford whenever it wants, and ALWAYS listening for an app notification to start- unless those can/are turned off in the menus.

Yes I'm aware of that, but @Ringo's dealer suggested simply delete the app not disable it from the car, and if it truly makes a difference that having the app installed is doing more polling/communicating in the background than it needs to.

I just took a look at my April-May FordPass data usage and it seems like it used more background data then foreground.

I'll probably do some experiments to see of my Google Assistant linked commands still works if I completely disable background data, and what else works/does not.

I think the stock 12 v battery that shipped with the truck is crap.

....

Turn off the key, one minute later, it reads 12.4 volts. 5 minutes later, it reads 12.2 volts. Park the truck overnight, everything off, next day; it's in the high 11.x volts.
I'm seeing the exact samething after a few days of monitoring. 14.3v when truck is on, turn it off drops to 12.5 right away and down to low 12 after just an hour. A well functioning battery should hold 13.5v easily for days or weeks.

Please let us know if you can still use Google commands with the Ford pass app deleted.

I highly doubt it since Google Assistant fowards the command to reasonable apps in cause of FordPass and MyQ for example.

But stuff like background data usage is most likely for notifications like deep sleep warning, which ironically most likely caused it. 😅

I would think that there must a device agnostic web-API that Google could/is using since you can also do the commands via smart devices (Echo, Google Home) that wouldn't have a FordPass app running.

Actually the full FordPass Google Assistant command is "ask FordPass to start my vehicle with pin xxxx" since the app isn't fully integrated into Assistant. It's just too much to say so I created a routine so I just have to say "start my car" and let Assistant issue the full command silently.

I haven't really tested it on my smart devices since my phone is always with me and responds faster

Trickle Charger aka "Battery Maintainer". Only designed to keep a healthy battery topped off when extended periods of inactivity planned. This is substitute for disconnecting your battery so you don't lose memory settings on everything. Not designed/intended to bring a dead or weak battery back up to fully charged.

Basically the same procedure for running it through Alexa. I use the same routine command verbatim. Doing it through Amazon services required some authentication steps so maybe that's the difference between allowing access to a global API versus a phone Google Assistant just hooking the app command locally.
