As you may know, I picked up my XLT yesterday. When I folded the tonneau cover up, I tried fitting the prop rods with no luck. Knowing that no one there would even have a clue, I figured you fine people would be better to ask.
Here is what I get, when I try... Sliding pieces are all the way up to their stops.

I've never seen anyone else with one of these, so I am not sure exactly how they are supposed to be. Here are a couple of pictures that show where it's mounted front-to-back:

It seems to me that it should be flush with the front of the bed. That would most likely leave a gap at the tailgate though.

Anyone have one of these installed and have properly operating prop rods?

If not, any other ideas?

*don't have one of these covers so pardon my ignorance*\
1. is the other end of the prop rod fixed? i assume it is
2. it appears the slides, the part fixed with the adjustable nut, should slide up further. have you loosened the adjustment nut to the point the slide can overcome the two rivets on the top and then push it up further?

My bad, for clarifying earlier..

From what I can see, the other end of the prop rod will not move.

The adjustable sliding parts are up as far as they will go. There are two rivets that act as stops. I haven't yet tried your suggestion, but I will.

I have the same cover, and noticed that you just have to push it over the rivet heads. There's a slight snag, but it will go over them. I found it to be helpful, as it kind of holds the slider in place, and then you can push the rod into the groove.

I decided to slide the plastic piece up far enough to get the prop rods in and had to remove the knob, in order to accomplish it.

As you can see, it was one or the other.

My solution ended up being loosening the two mounting point knobs and sliding the whole cover forward about a half inch. As suspected, it leaves a gap at the tailgate. By the time I figured it out, it was too dark to get good pics.

I may be late to the party but what about shortening the prop rods? Do the end covers come off? If so, I'd say cut off a small section. That way the cover will fit the bed properly and you will not have to undo the screw knobs holding the catch in place.

Great idea!

I will look into it!

Okay, so I came here wondering the same thing. I just picked my truck up on 4/29 and this is still an "issue". I kinda wonder why we need THAT much adjustment on the bracket too. Seems crazy.

you need to get the u shaped bracket all the way to the top. I found that the pop rivit gets caught, and then the prop rods won't fit to prop open the cover. You may also need to adjust(center) the cover. 2 knobs under the front corners. Loosen them up and you can adjust cover. take knobs off and entire cover can be removed. Mine works great after adjusting and making sure the brackets go to the top of the slots. Ford dealer had no clue, and no common sense for these details.
