I'm towing a camper that has a 3200lb dry weight so once I have all of my gear and in the case of having some tanks partially full, I will be getting within a couple hundred pounds of the max towing capacity. As I plan to be pulling this quite a bit, I want to ensure that I'm keeping my transmission cool enough.

Is there a way to get a temperature reading for the transmission on the Maverick?

Yes.
That and 100 other possible "readings" in a package the size of a cell phone.

Plug n Play. You'll have your readings in seconds.

Is this simply and OBDII reader? I already have one and transmission temperature is not an available data point.

Hey! I've tested this specifically because I want to monitor the trans temp while towing my travel trailer.
Here's a setup that worked for me:

1. ELM327 OBD2 Bluetooth reader (mine is a 10 year old dongle I bought to read check engine codes from the car I had back then)
2. Torque app (I'm on Android, I tested a few and this one works best even though it doesn't look great)
3. In the app settings, go to "Manage additional PIDs"->"Add a predefined set"->"Ford"
4. Go to the real-time data monitor
5. Add a gauge and select the proper PID for the transmission temperature. It should be called "[FORD] Transmission Temp"

Voilà. Don't forget to remove the dongle when you power off the car or it could drain your battery. Don't ask me how I know that.
Enjoy
