  1. At The Limit : Min-maxing, or a game of compromises - [Epic Trailer Towing Roadtrip Montreal <---> SoCal]

Hello everyone, Here's an update 3000 miles into the road trip. Note that I don't have access to a computer and so I have to do this on my phone which I find less than ideal. My posts/replies may be shorter than I'd like. Overall, it has been an excellent experience. The Maverick is comfortable...
  2. Weekend in the Presidential Range, travel trailer towing test

    Spot on! That's the 2022 Viking 16SFB.
  3. Weekend in the Presidential Range, travel trailer towing test

Apple Hill campground. It was perfect for our needs but I wouldn't recommend it for families, there are very few amenities.
  4. Weekend in the Presidential Range, travel trailer towing test

You're right, I guess. You could tow this with the Maverick hybrid for short distances provided you are fine with paying for repairs out of pocket should problems occur. Moreover, while it is not illegal to tow over GVWR, you will be in loads of trouble should you cause an accident while doing...
  5. Weekend in the Presidential Range, travel trailer towing test

Great info! Thanks for sharing, it gives me more confidence for my longer trip with bigger grades. Good tip for disabling the lane centering going downhill, I didn't think of that. Safe travels!
  6. Weekend in the Presidential Range, travel trailer towing test

Correct, it requires the EcoBoost engine + the 4K tow package.
  7. Weekend in the Presidential Range, travel trailer towing test

Hello! I suggest you read my other post that I linked in the initial post text but here is the simple run down. Its a 18.5ft long overall trailer, 10ft high 7ft wide. Dry weight is around 2750# but loaded up its about 3150# from what we can measure. To get the real number I'd have to unhook the...
  8. Weekend in the Presidential Range, travel trailer towing test

It's from Walmart, its a padded loveseat that is really comfy. The cup holders though will spill some.liquid if your can is full so its a bit inconvenient. https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/ozark-trail-padded-loveseat-camp-chair-blackred/6000200750019
  9. At The Limit : Min-maxing, or a game of compromises - [Epic Trailer Towing Roadtrip Montreal <---> SoCal]

I tested the setup on a 430 miles round-trip from Montreal to Bethlehem, New Hampshire. Here are the details!
  10. Weekend in the Presidential Range, travel trailer towing test

Hello everyone, Earlier this summer I posted here about my planned 12,000 miles road trip starting in Montreal, Canada going around National Parks in the western United States. You can see the original post here. We started testing our Maverick + travel trailer setup a few weeks ago with a...
  11. Transmission temperature gauge options?

Hey! I've tested this specifically because I want to monitor the trans temp while towing my travel trailer. Here's a setup that worked for me: 1. ELM327 OBD2 Bluetooth reader (mine is a 10 year old dongle I bought to read check engine codes from the car I had back then) 2. Torque app (I'm on...
  12. At The Limit : Min-maxing, or a game of compromises - [Epic Trailer Towing Roadtrip Montreal <---> SoCal]

That's great information actually. My WDH weighs 99lbs, its a non negligible weight in the overall setup. If I don't need it then there's no point carrying it around. I'll try and load the trailer on the truck without the WDH to see how much squat it induces.
  13. At The Limit : Min-maxing, or a game of compromises - [Epic Trailer Towing Roadtrip Montreal <---> SoCal]

Your photos are stunning! We will not be visiting Northern California this time around, we are planning a separate trip for that in the next 5-10 years.
  14. At The Limit : Min-maxing, or a game of compromises - [Epic Trailer Towing Roadtrip Montreal <---> SoCal]

Yes, its lost somewhere in the thread but I plan to have the fluids checked & replaced either when I reach Vegas, SoCal, or Flagstaff.
  15. At The Limit : Min-maxing, or a game of compromises - [Epic Trailer Towing Roadtrip Montreal <---> SoCal]

Arches is definitely something we are looking forward to! I'll ask my wife about Dead Horse Point, she's the one building the activity/point of interest list at the moment. Thanks!
  16. At The Limit : Min-maxing, or a game of compromises - [Epic Trailer Towing Roadtrip Montreal <---> SoCal]

Good point. I tend to get hung up on specs and numbers due to my job I guess. Thanks for reminding me of the intangibles like confidence and feel while driving. So far on the two trips I made (one 20km countryside roads and one 200km highway) I felt great if not maybe overly confident because I...
  17. At The Limit : Min-maxing, or a game of compromises - [Epic Trailer Towing Roadtrip Montreal <---> SoCal]

Leaving Montreal on August 28th, planning 8 days of driving to reach Yellowstone which is the first park on our itinerary. Ideally we arrive on September 4th but we'll see how we cope with the long days on the road and maybe we arrive a day later, no big deal.
  18. At The Limit : Min-maxing, or a game of compromises - [Epic Trailer Towing Roadtrip Montreal <---> SoCal]

Flagstaff was on the itinerary as a stop before heading back up North towards Grand Canyon but Sedona wasn't on my radar, I'll take a look. Thanks for the recommendation As for Yosemite, we wont be heading that far up California because we plan to do that in another trip in 5-10 years or so...
  19. At The Limit : Min-maxing, or a game of compromises - [Epic Trailer Towing Roadtrip Montreal <---> SoCal]

I'm sure you'll be fine if you drive carefully. I personally wouldn't take that up and down mountain passes but I am always overly cautious with these kind of things. If you do a write up of your experience when you get it, I'll be eager to read you!
  20. At The Limit : Min-maxing, or a game of compromises - [Epic Trailer Towing Roadtrip Montreal <---> SoCal]

Oh, I certainly did not know that speed limits went up to 80 mph in some states. Will I be a liability if I'm traveling at 60mph?
