Alrighty folks…honest question. I know it is limited and a stretch…but I would like to hear options and experiences related to towing…with the super tiny towing available. 2022/Lariat/hybrid/4 pin trailer hitch…2000 lb max.

this means 1300-1500 lb dry weight (top end is likely pushing it). Probably a popup? What other options do I have, if any? Has anyone tried a tiny camper? How did it handle?

Don’t laugh too hard. I know I bought it for the MPG…

There are lots of sub 2000lb options. There are dozens of brands of tear drop trailers, low weight Boiler type trailers, pop up tent trailers of various types, A liner type hard sided pop ups (base models for weight usually). If you really don't need anything fancy you can even look into tent trailers designed for touring motorcycles.

I use one of the motorcycle types, perfect for solo and couples camping.

There's an older couple we often see at campgrounds, they have a Prolite IIRC you can stand up in it, it sleeps two comfortably and has a nice kitchenette. They pull it with a +/- 2009 4 cylinder Camry ... the guy says he's been pulling it for years without any problems so a Maverick with 2k towing will be fine with these smaller campers

A-liner scout, older models, they got porky, Apache Mesa, Yuma or Ranger, Serro Scotty canned ham, in general a lot of sub 15" canned hams, in general popup tent trailers with 8ft box, but 10ft box you'll have to pick and choose, some are heavy.

The 2,000 lbs was for "as equipped".

It means your truck can adequately stop 2.000 lbs without trailer brakes.

You can add a trailer brake controller and a 7 pin connector to your truck and this opens up many more options to you and makes pulling any trailer, any weight safer, provided it has built-in brakes.

Do not be weary of going a little over 2,000 lbs. Your hybrid truck is more powerful than most trucks of the 1980's and 1990's who you know darn well towed a lot more than 2,000 lbs.

I tow 3,000 lbs, with my FWD hybrid.
I added a brake controller. It's cheap and easy to do. When braking, the truck doesn't really feel the trailer.

Going up hills, be prepared to stay to the right. But with a 3k trailer the hybrid mav will pass semis.

P.S. even if you get a trailer at 1800 to 2000 lbs fully loaded, I think you will like having a Trailer with brakes and having a brake controller. Really good to have for panic stops.

I’ve got a 2024 lariat hybrid and pull a foldable hard sided Aliner Scout Lite camper. 1,500 lbs. (fully loaded), 200 lbs. tongue weight, no trailer brakes. Pulls like a dream at 28 mpg (max 60-65 mph). The folded height is 6 to 8 inches taller than the top of the tailgate and the trailer is wider than the Maverick. So, watching traffic in the rearview mirrors is a little difficult. Other than that, it’s great.

"Scamp" trailers are lightweight and I saw some super lightweight line had been discontinued called "Prolite".

Really light has drawbacks too.
More prone to wind effects.

A bit heavy, with low center of gravity is a winning combination.

my tent trailer is 1500 lbs dry, plus humans 350 propane kayaks bicycles, camp gear. used to kiss 3500pound rating on my dodge caravan so 4000 is perfect.

Take a look at the SylvanSport Go https://www.sylvansport.com/go-camping-trailer/
I've been looking at teardrops, but tough to pull the trigger on something that costs as much as they do with as much as I would use it. This can be used as a small utility trailer, can haul my motorcycle to the campground, and then turn into a nice tent. Dry weight is under 900#s so even adding equipment, or fourwheeler/motorcycle would still be under the 2k tow weight.

Yea . I had an enclosed 10 x 6 ft trailer. (Extra tall ) with ramp door . installed Murphy style bed so could haul motorcycle when bed folded against the wall . multiple camping style upgrades . had stability jacks in back so could load bike without being hooked up . could ride bike right in . camped / motorcycled yellowstone , tetons , Roosevelt national park , Colorado national park , Acadia , new England , Shenandoah , blue Ridge Parkway (Pisgah camp grounds) and ect . great camping and motorcycling . used trailer for extra storage when sitting in yard . Camping days over so just sold trailer a couple weeks back . served me well .

I have towed mine behind my 3 cylinder Broco Sport. Have upgraded to a larger trailer for my Maverick 2k towing. Selling NorCal 7076nine65441

Those are a more advanced development of the concept that was seen in the Lifetime Tent Trailer that Costco used to sell https://www.lifetime.com/blog/post/new-lifetime-tent-trailer--perfect-for-work-and-play Seems like it's out of production and has been for 5 or 6 years. Those are a lot more "manual" like pitching a regular tent on a trailer, and don't have the hard cover. If you see them cheap on Craigslist or wherever they might be worth a try.

ETA: better selection of pics here from a product page, can't order though... https://www.competitiveedgeproducts...Tent-Trailer-wRamp-and-Spare-Tire_p_1764.html

However, a trailer place in Cali seems to have done their own take on it...
https://towsmarttrailers.com/products/camping-toy-hauler-atv-trailer

But I don't know if that one is still available either.

I will let you into a secret though, Ali Express will sell you canvas for several dimensions of soft roof fold out trailer. I think they run around $800, so you can build a Harbor Freight trailer with "wings" ... bed fold outs to match a tent you can get. I haven't investigated it yet, but there's a possibility that motorcycle trailer sized ones might be available that could pack on top of Maverick bed, and give you a popup on the truck. (With additional supported bed fold outs you make/get made. )
