The ECM only controls the ICE side of things. The eCVT is controlled by the Inverter System Controller (or SOBDMC) through solid state electronics which are functionally two conjoined variable frequency three phase motor controllers.
You are absolutely correct. I was wrong by thinking about a CVT in a NON - HYBRID vehicles.

eCVT are continuously variable in the Electric Mode because of the Inverter System Control of the Driving Motor as you described. It's never too late for this 89 YO advocate to learn. Amen!!!

This is a good YouTube video about Hf35 eCVT's (very similar to Maverick). Enjoy!!!

So do GM, Toyota, Chrysler fwd transmissions have replaceable filters?

They play the numbers and those numbers say you are far more likely to just toss the money away than it actually pays off. Hence why they push it so hard on point of purchase.
You shouldn't buy one at time of purchase unless it's from Flood or Granger; unless the dealership will price-match them. And that is very unlikely.

Normally, I follow what you said and do not buy an extended warranty. But opted to for this truck; not because mine's a Hybrid, but because it's a fairly newly designed vehicle - both the Hybrid and the ecoboost.

Last major trouble I had with a Ford was a vehicle with a newly designed engine. Warranty was 3/36k and the engine sh*t the bed at 42k. Stealership wanted 5k to replace the engine. Ford corporate said I had the opportunity to buy an extended warranty at time of purchase. I countered that an engine should last longer than 42k. They agreed and offered to sell me a 75k extended warranty and replace the engine at no-charge, except for the deductible. I took their offer.

I wonder if the hybrids ECVT will be at all problematic?
Could be. But really not likely. Also, keep in mind that OP's terrible situation with the conventional transmission is rare, so far.

The Ford eCVT technology is licensed from Toyota, and has been real-world proven reliable in the Prius since 1997, and also in the Hybrid Escape used in NYC taxis. Here a taxi taken out of service at 400k City miles, with original HV battery and eCVT transmission.

Just picked my 22 up from having my transmission replaced. 99k miles. I called Ford and they were way more helpful than I could ever expect with no warranty. They trimmed $3500 off . Ended paying $4,300.
Calling Ford directly sometimes does get results. At least it did for me on a different out-of-warranty vehicle.

And it's sounding like they are the ones that screwed it up after fixing the leak.

I dunno... unless it's a major leak, I think I'd rather have my transmission left alone considering they need to drop the entire thing just to replace the gasket. I'd have to see dripping fluid while it's running in excess. Especially if it wasn't under warranty anymore.

The Ford eCVT is theirs and theirs alone. Ford and Toyota did co-develop the eCVT and while they share many similarities they are both separate and unique to each manufacturer.

Per the video above, Toyota copied Ford and the dual axis design for their latest eCVT's.

I can say one of the shops I used to work at stopped doing flushes on anything over 60K that had never been flushed before. Had a few have issues and it wasn't anything we did. So not worth the hassle as a shop to continue doing it.
I've heard not to do tranny flush, only change fluid, filter & gasket. Ive also heard of many failures after a flush!!

I don't see a problem with Transmission reverse flushes if done correctly.
I personally change oils and fluids once a year in a Fusion AWD that only sees 5000 miles per year. I would never exceed 20,000 miles on a Transmission Fluid changes.

My dealer has an extended 10 year 100k miles free of charge so yes I have it but wasn’t gonna buy it.

So we bought a used 2015 Ford Flex with 30k miles on it just over 4 years ago. I bought the extended Ford Platinum warranty from Granger. The Flex is a complex vehicle.

We had a weird thrumming noise, irrespective of engine speed. The dealer replaced the PTU, both front axles and hubs. Noise seems to be gone.

I have been RELIGIOUS about changing the PTU fluid at 30k , 60k and we are now at 81k. New PTU.

The warranty has paid for itself 5x over. They also fixed the non functional wiper fluid pump. :)

I plan on adding the extended warranty from Granger when the factory warranty gets close to expiring.
