So guessing the fluid was never changed. If that is the case Thai is not an issues. That’s a lot of miles for a very limited capacity system.

Oh ya cause nothing breaks on a hybrid.
Unbunch your panties, eCVT transmissions are pretty reliable. They were co-developed with Toyota. Ever wonder why so many Taxis are Prius's?

What's the scheduled service interval on the new HF55 eCVT? I wonder if the OP had the tow package...doesn't that give a bit more capacity and a tranny cooler? Could be a big difference. Anyways, highway miles are easy miles on a car if your not hauling heavy loads/towing, we can only wonder unless we get more info from him.

Guess it depends. Did he ever change the fluid(not answered to what I have seen) but 170K is quite a bit for no change or anything... so im not that surprised. I havent had nor will I ever own a vehicle with much over 100-115K tops thats when I figure stuffs gonna start breaking..which isnt always bad but I generally roll with a vehicle with 5-95K then get something newer with another extended warranty.

So no havent heard about them having a true "issue" with transmissions BUT going on 200K is enough I wouldnt be surprised at all. Unless I was meticulous about my maintenance and changed the transmission fluid I had read here so I didnt go out and look at manual in truck but i saw someone said the manual said 30K for severe 100K for normal... and thats quite a spread.... mine has 38K and is in all ways "normal" I dont tow, off road, drive in a LOT of dust or sand, and have a mixed miles trip of half and half (highway/city). I will probably change mine at about 50-60K.

But with 170K no changes im not at all surprised its going out/bad at 170K

I think thats being purposely avoided as a answering point ;) . And the op did post he checked the LEVELS and they were ok... Checking the LEVELS at 170K is a LOT different than changing the fluid at 30 or 100K as recommended

Would a WBA’s filter or a low fluid cause any of this? I feel like chances are slim?
Mine died at about 40k miles with the correct fluid level and no towing or heavy hauling, just lots of city driving. The diagnosis was burnt fluid, still replaced under warranty.

Okay so it was answered not all highway miles. 170 thousand miles is not an awful result.

My buddy got 270 K miles on 2006 F150 then sold it. Never changed trans fluid. BUT mostly highway miles. So 170 NOT mostly highway isn't bad.

I have a CRV with a traditional automatic transmission currently at ~307K miles. It’s had a flashing D (trans issue) for the last 100K but I can’t tell a performance difference. Drives just fine with a 50/50 mix of driving conditions. Fluid changes every 50K miles or so.

I’m driving to work and I hear a strange noise and now my tranny will not shift out of first, no matter what gear I select, meaning N or D or low, and now it won’t shift back to Park. At time it would not even move.
I have almost 170k and it’s been mostly trouble free. Anybody else having this problem? Does anybody have a transmission for sale?
Eric
So before giving up on this transaxle I would try a fluid change. Drop the pan and see what is in there. If there are not metal shavings in the pan I'd clean as best as I could, use a new gasket and refill the transaxle and see what it does. It MIGHT be that a sensor has gotten blocked by gunk and is not sensing the speed of a ring or the position of something. Maybe a solenoid of some sort is stuck. You might get lucky and I hope you do.

My frame of reference is Mercedes which sold "maintenance free" transmissions when they went to synthetic fluids. It should have been advertised as warranty free since the synthetic fluid would easily get the car out of warranty before the transmission acted up. A fluid change at 70,000 would keep those cars going. It was a shame how many really good cars met their fate as a result of what was really misinformation by the manufacturer. Even worse, the fluid change was super easy, as easy as an oil change.

70,000 miles seems to be a good rule of thumb, but the AWD system has two more gear sets; the Power Takeoff Unit and the differential. I saw some forum wisdom that people are servicing those at 30,000 to 40,000 miles. Alternatively they tend to go bad at the 170,000-200,000 mi zone.

The Lobo is a bit of a different animal (not a question you asked, but I'm on a roll). It has clutches and clutches wear and leave detritus in the fluid, so, if I had a Lobo and used it as the engineers intended I would probably go ahead and do all three at 40,000 miles while I was under the truck.

It’s not my panties that are in a bunch. Your statement was stupid.
You stated you wouldn’t buy an ice because one guys died at 170k with more than likely no service.
One could point to every thread about the hybrid half shafts failures and state the same thing.
